Organized Music from Thessaloniki presents The crystal at the lips, a new album of field-recording-based works by Will Montgomery. The album compiles two works that explore aspects of space and location recording, but follow significantly different paths in the process. The album’s first track combines two scores by the Wandelweiser composer Manfred Werder in a simultaneous realisation that was first performed at a Bang the Bore event at the Hansard Gallery, Southampton, in June 2013. Werde…

Concentrated, Bendy Acid From Computer Rave Hooligans Evol, debuting their first release for Diagonal. RIYL: Belgian Techno, Licking Batteries, Coloured Plastic Discs!* "‘Flapper That’ sees Diagonal invite EVOL — arch propagators of “computer music for hooligans” — to their own, unique establishment for a proper headshrinker of a session. Since Diagonal’s incarnation, EVOL’s hardcore aesthetic and sense of absurdity has been a key influence on the label and Powell’s DJ sets. In effect, 'F…
Following his acclaimed 2014 Scythians EP (PAN 052EP), M.E.S.H. returns to PAN with his debut album, the opulent and dystopian Piteous Gate. Alongside fellow members of Berlin's Janus collective, behind nights at Berghain and Corsica Studios, M.E.S.H. is known for his futurist approach to club dynamics and production. On Piteous Gate, tightly gridded and sculpted sound juts up against loose-wristed improvisation, automated processes, and collage. Standard club syncopation is twisted by slidi…
Limited gatefold double LP version. Though known as a touring and recording musician associated with Nine Inch Nails, Alessandro Cortini has really come into his own via his Forse trilogy, and his 2014 Hospital Productions debut, Sonno (HOS 412CD). For his Hospital follow-up, he maintains the grittiness and intimacy introduced on his debut, but expands on it, offering a wider spectrum of emotion and depth. Like Sonno, Risveglio was written and recorded while on tour. The drive to create intima…
LP version. These recordings pull back a curtain to reveal the mysterious world of Syntoma and early-'80s underground Mexico. Syntoma was founded by Alex Eisenring in 1980, made use of synths and drum machines, and was driven by a freedom-seeking DIY ethos informed by a "rock-jazz-prog-experimental" background. These '70s-born influences throw crazed funhouse mirror reflections onto later Kraftwerk, UK synth-pop, post-punk, and pure pop forms. The first five tracks are instrumental, evidenci…
**2015 re-edition of 300 copies** A collection of seven intimate pieces about detachment, the inner world, timelessness, silence,… Instrumentation : Hammond organ, voice, piano, guitar, harp, flute, percussion, field recordings. Gosh this is lovely - a suite of spellbinding ambient folk meditations from Timo Van Luijk, the boss of Belgium's exquisite Metaphon label. A regular collaborator with the likes of Andrew Chalk, Raymond Dijkstra, and Christoph Heeman, among others, Timo operates at the c…
Nikolaienko's upcoming full length is a playful and intriguing archive of sounds influenced by the works of electronic music pioneers and experimenters. The album acts as a tribute to early-electronics' golden era, playing out as a requiem, pondering the theme of nostalgia through warm analogue, space-aged sounds. For the artist, it’s an odd and ironically funny sound document, which he hopes declares some other way that electronic music can be today.
Necessary vinyl reissues of this pair of classic LP’s from the legendary British institute that is the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. These LP’s have been unavailable individually on vinyl in their original format/ running order for donkeys years (Rephlex reissued both as a four 10” set back in 2004 with each record grouping tracks by the individual artists). Here they’ve been fully remastered from the original tapes by the workshops archivist Mark Ayres and pressed on 180g wax. This pioneering work …
Fratello Mare, which takes its title from Folco Quilici's classic 1975 film, continues UK-born, Italy-based musician Mike Cooper's ode to the Pacific, its people, and the traditions that have flowed from that part of the world into seemingly endless iterations within contemporary culture. Recorded across 2014, the tropical opus dovetails neatly with Cooper's other Room40 editions, White Shadows in the South Seas (RM 454CD, 2013) and the post-everything classic Rayon Hula (2004). It expands h…
Outstanding!!!!!! Conceived while wandering through the iron bark forests and gold fields of country Victoria, Australia, the official debut by Melbourne's Hour House offers a musical blueprint marinated in mystery, beauty, sound, and song. Hour House is the duo of Mark Leacy and Sam Kenna, formerly of the Newcastle-based outfit Castings. Chiltern comprises individual tracks folded into two side-long suites in a unique excursion through foreign encounters, warm surrounds, and disorienting comfor…
"C05" presents an 18-minute composition, which draws from the texts and themes of Came to Call Mine, presenting a strange lattice of fragmented narration and juvenile musical vision. Came to Call Mine is an extensive full-color art book by visionary musician, artist, and writer Graham Lambkin. Playing out like a children's book for adults, Came to Call Mine features 50 hand-drawn illustrations coupled with simplistic corresponding texts. Lambkin's mischievous combination of figurative and abstr…

Awsome! Le Syndicat with this reissue of Audiostatik Repress from 1983, certified to be a head-cleaner of brutalist / bruitist / rhythmicist / industrial noise... The rhythm and noise for Le Syndicat evolved through process mingling tape-loops, overblown drum machine programming, shortwave radio experiments, short-circuited consumer electronics, and eventually rudimentary sampler technolog. Audiostatik Repress is a visionnary project in 1983 of what's happened late in the 90's sounds…
“Friction” is a compression of the two first official tapes of Brume, “Frikture” 1985 and “Le jour du cochon” 1986/87, also including an unreleased that closes the end of side A of this vinylic reissue. A very experimental period, electro-ethnico-indus orientated because Brume went from “all analogical” to the first numeric tests, electroacoustic, to make an hybrid synthesis until today with the computer.
Swedish composer Magnus Granberg (Skogen) places baroque instruments alongside prepared piano, objects and electronics in an exquisite 60-minute piece performed with an excellent set of performers including Cyril Bondi, d'incise, Eric Ruffing, Christoph Schiller, &c.
For years now Hanno Leichtmann has been one of the most prolific protagonists of Berlin's electronic music scene and beyond: as experimental percussionist and electronic artist Leichtmann has released several albums under his real name, aliases such as Static and The Vulva String Quartet or in bands like Groupshow (with Jan Jelinek and Andrew Pekler) or Denseland (with David Moss and Hannes Strobl) on labels like City Centre Offices, Karaoke Kalk, M=Minimal, Dekorder and Staubgold. Leichtmann al…
"Margriet Hoenderdos was born in 1952. She composed her first mature piece, blue time for two pianos, in 1981 while studying with Ton de Leeuw, and her last work, januari '10 for ensemble, in the year of her death. In between she wrote some fifty compositions, ranging from solo works to orchestral pieces. Within Dutch music life with its preference for grand rhetorical gestures her highly refined work remained a background presence, but a powerful one, attracting a small but dedicated following …
"The trajectory of Alex Cobb's music over the course of the last decade could be viewed as a distillation of tone and atmosphere to arrive at Chantepleure, his most optimistic and sanguine musical statement to date. The album, however, was created at a time of heartache, isolation, and emotional upheaval and acts as a balm of tender tones where abstract guitar lines circle and suspend in a kind of refined elegance. Noise, once a hallmark of Cobb's music, has not been entirely removed, but manife…
