Rotorelief

Xerxes
New album by Brume (Christian Renou), who is a prolific French musique concrete composer/sound organizer who has been releasing CDs and cassettes worldwide. Renou is remarkable because he engages in elaborate concrete compositions without the academic pretension that surrounds much of the work in this style. More info later. Xerxes was the King of Persia in 500 B.C. and could be considered today as a symbol of « blitzkrieg ». His aggressive instincts allowed him to defeat the Greek army in a qui…
Landform Erosion
Landform Erosion finds producer duo Fujako - Jonathan Uliel Saldanha (aka HHY) and Nicolas Esterle (aka Ripit) - returning to the seismic terrain of their 2009 debut Landform and subjecting it to a slow, deliberate collapse. Where the original album carved out a singular zone of “unlooped hip hop and telluric dub from the geological strata,” this companion piece treats those tracks as unstable rock faces to be cracked, dissolved and reassembled. What emerges is less a remix record than a process…
Sylph Ballet
Previously unreleased album from the '70s by German trio Sand. Still living in the mythical landscapes, Sand not not only created Golem, who was a being of the earth. Something else pulsated with a different energy of oscillation. The invisible beings of the air performed their dances. The Golem was large, mighty and of compact matter. He needed an external spirit to be navigated. Sylph creatures moved with the clouds and the wind -- from gentle breezes to violent storms, always sensitive to the…
Golem
2017 remastered edition, with new standard glossy jacket. Originally released in 1974. German trio Sand's first album, Golem, is a legendary work of cosmic psychedelic genius. There is something magical and inexplicable in creation, and Sand absolutely manifest these mysterious phenomena. Storytellers, musicians, shamans, geniuses -- Sand were known, at the end of the '60s, as P.O.T. (Part of Time). Then Sand -- Ludwig Papenberg, his brother Ulrich Papenberg, and Johannes Vester -- developed a m…
Netsu
As Takaaaki says, this is NOT usual Dubstep. He makes it evolve to a new Dubstep, with a heavy, dark and aggressive side, clinging to the bass and various BPMs, but some harmonies and even hints of melodies take all these sounds to a new level, creating a mutant Dubstep that hypnotizes the listener and takes him to lunar seas or snowy landscapes. But be aware that with Takaaaki decadence and crazyness are never far and Netsu might give you fever very quickly.
Desert Navigation
2017 remastered edition, with new standard glossy jacket. Orange vinyl version. Edition of 500 (numbered). 2017 remastered edition, with new standard glossy jackets. Texture and feeling of 1975 with boosted audiophile sound quality. Previously unreleased album by German trio Sand, recorded 1973-1982. Live events in the quarry and an archaic sound formed the background music of the young atomic age. In the meantime, after endless trance garage sessions, Sand drifted from the mythical lands…
Modes Réels Collectifs
Modes réels collectifs is the first work published in 1981 under the Vivenza banner, following Jean-Marc Vivenza's time with the bands Glace (1976) and Mécanique Populaire (1979). It represents a genuine manifesto that would become emblematic of all Vivenza's subsequent work. By suggesting, from philosophical and sonic points of view, an idea of opening to the reality directly inspired from Futurist theories, Vivenza was presenting what he had brought from his relationship with machines and soun…
1000
This 45 rpm 12'' called « 1000 » is a collection of Roxy's unreleased New Wave and synth-infused tracks still signed by her oh so particular voice. Sometimes punchy, sometimes languorous and velvety, a common point all the tracks have is a strength that seems never to leave her. Also noticeable is the reprise of the mythical and mysterious synth-pop band Nine Circles, who else better than Roxy could tell us « What's There Left »?.
Whiter than white
The title Whiter than white sounds like an advert for soap. Adverts and soap are precisely what Les Belles Noïseuses blame. Or even more precisely what they represent: consumption, conformity, economic liberalism. However, don't expect to get a speech from Les Belles Noïseuses. Only feelings, emotions, dreams and nightmares are conveyed through their refined musical structure. The doom-jazz double-bass reminds the best from Mick Karn. The minimalist guitar scrapes melody to the bone, to the aton…
Deconstructing hank
I wanted to share Hank with a world that was unfamiliar with him and unable to grasp the despair, hurt and loneliness that he lived, unable to absorb the words or the sentiment, unable to hear the words, “Like a piece of driftwood on the sea, may you never be alone like me”. I asked Derek Rush if he would be interested in doing Hank Williams songs with me, he put them in a minor key and arranged them while I re-interpreted the melody and sang the words of Hank Williams, adding my g…
When the May Rain Comes
Cover of a track by Sand, whose work has had a profound affect on Tibet’s work, first appeared on Current 93’s influential album Thunder Perfect Mind. Also appearing on this 12'' is an alternate version of the same track from a CD single which accompanied the first 1,000 copies of Tibet and Stapleton’s release of material by Sand, Ultrasonic Seraphim. This 12'' is part of a series of releases from rotorelief comprised of new albums from Sand, a reissue of their album Golem and albums by Nurse wi…
Neurochemie
'Neurochemie' is one of the most intriguing albums we've found on France's excellent Rotorelief label. It counts as part of ongoing research by Siegmar Fricke, a long-standing fixture of the European tape music scene who has collaborated with the likes of Maurizio Bianchi and Giancarlo Toniutti since 1985 (Siegmar Fricke started in 1981 making musique-concrete-experiments with magnetophones and shortwave-radio signals, recorded on various cassettes, followed by intense activities in th…
Z-Rated
Uncompromising sound artist Ivan Pavlov, aka CoH, releases his latest body of work in a special edition for France's Rotorelief label, housed in a stunning and unique pop-out digicase CD design. While relating to the release of Takahashi Miike's 'Zebraman 2' - a low budget Japanese superhero farce - 'Z-Rated' also doubles as a compilation of rare and previously unreleased early material dating from 1992 right up to 2009. If you've followed CoH's records over those years, you might know to …
Festin d'acier
Le Syndicat started its activity in Paris in 1982 and was founded by art students Ruelgo and Van Minh Lê. The goal of this association was to make extreme live noise performances. A year later, Le Syndicat tape label was created with help from Zorïn, painter, graphic designer and visual scientist. Their fascination for chaos, strength and violence was not motivated by provocation but by the sheer pleasure to manipulate noise material. That was the main difference between industrial…
Life out of time
LP album, numbered and stamped vinyl limited edition of 215 copies. Ilitch is a french artist out of the ordinary making music directly coming out of his states of mind, not taking only one path: it can be dark and merry, difficult or bouncy, satisfying different audiences. He consistently associates his music to imagery and tells stories, with wide influences: Philip Glass, quality popular music, contemporary music, Pink Floyd... Ilitch is part of the artists considered as influential in the fr…
Realites Servomecaniques
LP album, glossy cover, numbered and pressed on red vinyl. "Realites Servomecaniques" is an improved version faithful to the original recordings with visuals specially reworked, answering to a categorical assertion, theoricaly and practicaly on Vivenza's bruitist point of view, who presents sounds, « noises », under their rawest and genuine aspect: sounds are machines / machines are sounds. Thus Vivenza captured the essence of factories with a strong sense of austerity, radicality, verticality…
Aramesh
Aramesh is the latest collaborative work between Pacific 231 & Vox Populi! A synthesis of East meets West colliding with the most experimental sounds & collages. Building-up stacks of multi-directional creations using the latest Binaural Technology to immerse the listener totally within.
Just digging the crazy art
LP album, numbered and stamped vinyl limited edition of 250 copies. The first is the pioneer of noise, experimental, industrial music, the other would rather be a sonorous underrated, surreal, sonic alchemist. Their music Dreamcatcher and Les 24 coups au vif are sparkling water works to get drunk. Pacific 231 created a dark aquatic atmosphere whereas Lieutenant Caramel tries to introduce some zing, pops and flings in the bubbles. Reflexive and mental, 'Just digging the crazy art' is the launch o…
Music for air raids V2.0
LP album, numbered and stamped vinyl edition limited to 250 copies. A different version from ' Music for Air Raids ', recomposed for the vynil format and entirely remastered. Comes above our heads the distant roar of ' Music for air raids v2.0 ' as a prelude to the waves of polyrhythmic drums and unremitting guitars, of powerful and constructive poundings that will penetrate us to the core throughout the album. As this album is a tour de force end-to-end, with raids of drums, persussions and gui…
Persecutionem
LAST COPIES - LP album, numbered and stamped vinyl limited edition of 250 copies. 'I've taken inspiration for this medicative work from the sordid persecution of the early Christians, but in other ways we receive objectivistic persecution every day from this standardized system, from our wretched condition and from the modern persecutors which are hidden behind their threatening countenances. The appropriate soundtrack of such perturbed sufferings is this justifiable work, 'Persecutionem', in wh…
