condition (record/cover): EX / VG (general wear) The only studio album by Los Angeles hardcore legends, produced by Joan Jett and released in 1979. Darby Crash's vocals are barely intelligible slurs, yet somehow convey genuine rage and nihilism more effectively than clearer delivery could. The band plays with barely controlled chaos - primitive but surprisingly powerful, capturing punk's self-destructive energy at its absolute peak. Songs like "Lexicon Devil" and "We Must Bleed" became anthems despite (or because of) their raw, almost unlistenable production. Pat Smear's guitar work is actually more sophisticated than first appears, creating melodic lines within the noise. Recorded shortly before Crash's deliberate suicide, (GI) stands as both document and monument to L.A. punk's darkest impulses. Essential and genuinely dangerous.
