Marginal Concert is the collective improvisation project made up of Kazuo Imai, Tomonao Koshikawa, Kei Shii, and Masami Tada. All of the members were students of Takehisa Kosugi at Bigakko art school in 1975. They started the project on the invitation of Imai in 1997. Each year Marginal Consort holds from one to several concerts in which they perform continuously, without interruption, for two to four hours. An incredible album of music, conjoining two different sonic aspects of Maine's Strangeness. Big Blood are well known to fanciers of contemporary sub-underground sounds. The duo of Colleen Kinsella andCaleb Mulkerin have been conjuring up rural-experimental ghosts for over a decade. Feeding Tube has previously released their double LP set,Radio Valkyrie (FTR 103LP) to rapturous acclaim. LP version. Includes printed inner sleeves and download code. Rhys Chatham returns with his first solo album since 2013, the enchantingPythagorean Dream. Having studied under Terry Riley and La Monte Young (with whom he later went on to work), Chatham fused the overtone-drenched minimalism of John Cale and Tony Conrad with the relentless, elemental fury of the Ramones. It was an inspired amalgamation -- the textural intricacies of the avant-garde colliding with the visceral punch of electric gui…
After being discovered by fans of '60s underground psychedelia in the late 1980s, the sole self-titled 1967 album by Orange County band Beat Of The Earth has grown into a classic within the field, in spite of its rarity. The improvisational music on the album cannot be easily categorized, but most would agree that it represents a unique link between mid-1960s California and the droning acid rock of the later era. From a preternatural surf-era 45 and a local b-movie soundtrack, Phil Pearlman's as…
Restocked!! Formed in 1967 as a psychedelic electronic duo featuring Dan Taylor on drums and Simeon on a homemade synthesizer consisting of 12 oscillators (and an assortment of sound filters, telegraph keys, radio parts, lab gear and a variety of second hand electronic junk), Silver Apples quickly gained a reputation as New York's leading underground musical expression. Their pulsating rhythmic beats with the use of electronics laid the groundwork for what would become 'Krautrock' Silver Apples …

1st time LP reissue of 1985 album is a damaged, hallucinatory journey that radiates from a Chicago blues core. Legendary Texan artist Terry Allen occupies a unique position straddling the frontiers of country music and visual art; he has worked with everyone from Guy Clark to David Byrne to Lucinda Williams, and his artwork resides in museums worldwide. Widely celebrated as a masterpiece—arguably the greatest concept album of all time—his spare, haunting 1975 debut LP Juarez is a violent, fractured tale of the chthonic American Southwest and borderlands. Produced in collaboration with the artist and meti…
Alga Marghen presents a reissue of Intersystems' Free Psychedelic Poster Inside (1968). Intersystems occupied a difficult-to-reach critical nook between the many tropes that had established to frame the various artistic trends of 1960s. Announcing itself with a quivering beam of fluorescent sound, the beginning of Intersystems' Free Psychedelic Poster Inside feels as though it's slowly piercing right through your frontal lobe. Blake Parker's poetry is a dark glimpse into mundane domesticity …
Alga Marghen presents a reissue of Intersystems' Peachy (1967). The sound work of Intersystems cannibalized stray bits of McLuhanism, psychedelia, Cagean experimentalism, and even the modernist gestural strains of nascent electronic music, yet it was all couched within a very particular DIY ethos. Peachy pushes the meticulousness of Number One Intersystems (NMN 093-1LP) even further and, as such, represents a more balanced amalgam of Intersystems' various disparate stylistic and emotional elemen…
Alga Marghen presents a reissue of Intersystems' Number One Intersystems (1967). Intersystems' works evoke the heightened awareness, intermittent psychosis, intellectual over-stimulation and giddy nihilism of an acid expedition. "Orange Juice and Velvet Underwear" may indeed be the most typically "Psychedelic" cut of Intersystems entire catalog. Its saturated crypto-Indian drone and bent acoustic guitar notes, are upstaged by Parker's lurid-sounding declamations and Mills-Cockell's fierce …
Merzbow stands as the most important artist in noise music. The moniker of Japanese Masami Akita was born in Tokyo in 1979. Inspired by Dadaism and Surrealism, Akita took the name for his project from German artist Kurt Schwitters' pre-war architectural assemblage "The Cathedral of Erotic Misery" or “Merzbau”. Just as Schwitters attacked the entrenched artistic traditions of his time with his revolutionary avant-garde collages, so too would Akita challenge the contemporary concept of what is cal…
