Birgit Ulher
Birgit Ulher is a German trumpeter and improviser, born in Nuremberg in 1961, who has lived in Hamburg since 1982. Trained in the visual arts, she extends the trumpet beyond its open tone with split sounds, multiphonics, granular textures and self-made preparations, and pays close attention to the relation between sound and silence. Ulher performs solo, with her own ensembles, and with dancers, visual artists and composers.
