Black Artists Group

Black Artists Group (BAG) was a multidisciplinary collective founded in St. Louis in 1968, bringing together musicians, poets, dancers, and visual artists in a spirit of creative self-determination. Inspired by Chicago's AACM, BAG became a crucible for some of the most important voices in American creative music, including Oliver Lake, Julius Hemphill, Hamiet Bluiett, Charles "Bobo" Shaw, Baikida Carroll, and Joseph Bowie.
