Diamanda Galás is a Greek-American singer, pianist, composer and performance artist, hailed as one of the most extraordinary voices of our time, with a range of over three and a half octaves used as an instrument of shock and mourning. Trained as a pianist and steeped in Greek rebetiko and the blues, she emerged in the early 1980s with works of extreme vocal technique and political charge.
CD Edition. In 1988, with America's AIDS death toll at 46,000 and antivirals still years away, Diamanda Galás released You Must Be Certain of the Devil, the final installment of her Masque of the Red Death trilogy. Her brother Philip had died of AIDS-related illness in 1986. She had been attending Act Up protests. Critics dismissed her as "the AIDS lady," unwilling to reckon with what she was actually doing: creating a work she described as "begun in 1984 and not completed until the end of the e…
This wild and wonderful 4 cd set came about from a meeting between Nyahh Records boss Willie Stewart and Bill Perrine, author of Alien Territory: Radical, Experimental and Irrelevant Music From 1970's San Diego. The two were chatting over email when Bill happened to mention that he had access to the archive at the University of California, San Diego. Which contained a large collection of unreleased work by many of the artists and musicians mentioned in his book. They decided to collaborate on a…
2025 Stock. In the shadowy interstices of avant-garde performance and sonic extremity, Faust. Eros. Tod. stands as one of Diamanda Galás’s most elusive and mythic recordings. Circulating as a rare bootleg, this live album—captured in the early 1980s and released unofficially in 1988—offers a raw, unfiltered glimpse into Galás’s early explorations of the voice as a weapon, an invocation, and a lament.
Faust. Eros. Tod. is not a conventional album, but a document of ritualistic performance. Galás’…

The Saint of the Pit, Diamanda Galás’ fifth studio album and the second in her trilogy, The Masque of the Red Death, is an urgent record. Its theme is essentially passion, in the sense of suffering, although here, and unlike the passion of Christianity, there is little to offer solace. Re-released on Galás’ own Intravenal Sound Operations (ISO) after its initial release on Mute in November 1986, The Saint and the Pit is a masterpiece of witnessing, forged from grief and fury during the HIV-AIDS …

CD is packaged with an 14x28 inch poster and eight page booklet with lyrics and translations. . Diamanda Galás In Concert is not simply a live album. With nothing but a piano and the full expressive range of her extraordinary voice, Diamanda Galás strips away the comforting patina of time, tradition and stylistic convention to expose and express the raw human emotion that is the living heart of a song. It explores an eclectic range of material; rembetika, soul, ranchera, country and free jazz, a…
Tip! Employing a vast array of advanced vocal and instrumental techniques, Broken Gargoyles is arguably Diamanda Galás' most intellectually, sonically and viscerally formidable work to date. The album finds the visionary artist deftly probing the weaving, warping transformation on the nervous systems of her post-traumatic soldiers and dying diseased. The album's first part, "Mutilatus," contains the Georg Heym poems "Das Fieberspital" and "Die Dämonen der Stadt," and concerns the suffering of th…
Diamanda Galas' debut album "Litanies of Satan", originally released in 1982, reissued on the artist's own Intravenal Sound Operations label. The album has been meticulously remastered from the original Y Records analogue tapes and features the original classic artwork.
Huge Tip! On June 30, 1986, the same day that Diamanda Galás's The Divine Punishment was released, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of Georgia's so-called sodomy law in Bowers v. Hardwick, criminalizing consensual sex between men. At the time, about 15,000 people were known to have died of AIDS in the U.S. alone, with little government acknowledgement besides suggestions to quarantine homosexuals on island colonies. By the end of 2021, the number of AIDS deaths globally would excee…

Live at St. Thomas the Apostle documents Diamanda Galás’ volcanic May 2016 performance at St. Thomas the Apostle church in Harlem NY, described by the New York Times as "guttural and operatic, baleful and inconsolable, spiritual and earthy, polyglot and wordless, nuanced and unhinged." The concert, produced by Intravenal Sound Operations and Red Bull Music Academy, was composed exclusively of what Galás calls “death songs”.
De-formation: Piano Variations, a work for solo piano. Composed and performed by Diamanda Galas in September 2019, the 21:19 minute piece is based on the expressionist poem Das Fieberspital (The Fever Hospital). Written by German poet Georg Heym in 1912, Das Fieberspital's depiction of warehoused patients of yellow fever presaged the treatment and hiding of infected and damaged soldiers later in WWI. De-formation depicts a march and delivery of maimed and infected soldiers to hospitals and indus…
