Francisco Mela
Francisco Mela is a Cuban jazz drummer from Bayamo. He moved to Boston in 2000 to study at Berklee College of Music, where he later joined the percussion faculty. He is best known for his work with Joe Lovano, whose groups he joined in 2005, and for playing in McCoy Tyner's trio. He also leads his own bands, and his recent records are collective free improvisations. Before leaving Cuba, Mela taught at the Rafael Cabrera Conservatory and led the MelaSon Latin Jazz Band.
