Limpe Fuchs, born in Munich in 1941, is a German composer and performer of acoustic and visual happenings who makes sound with unusual, often self-built instruments. Trained in piano and violin in early-1960s Munich, then a city full of counter-cultural energy, she formed Anima Sound at the end of the decade with her partner, the sculptor Paul Fuchs, a project of two decades of free "sound research" using metal, stone and wood objects, tractor horns and voice. Playing barefoot among her sculptural instruments, she has continued solo since, a rare woman at the origin of the German underground and now, in her eighties, rediscovered and celebrated by a younger experimental audience.
