Puzzle Wood
*2024 stock* "A master in electroacoustic music and digital sound manipulation, English composer Natasha Barrett leaves few traces of familiar sounds or instruments in her music, although the audio sources often are acoustic. Here she performs five of her compositions composed between 1994 and 1997. The album's newest composition, 'Animalcules' is from 2010. The title Puzzle Wood refers to a forest in Gloucestershire, where Barrett grew up, and also gives name to this album's key track, and olde…
Peat + Polymer
*2024 stock* "This one has it all: intercontinental field recordings, sledding children, vocal manipulations, soundscapes, excursions in drone. Natasha Barrett has been called “Norway’s most prominent composer of electro-acoustic music,” and on the basis of this double disc, she’s earned it.  Peat+Polymer isn’t just a showcase for her own talents, but for the breadth of experimentalism. Opening triptych “Hidden Values” is a tribute to three inventions: the umbrella, glasses/contact lenses, and t…
Trade Winds
*2024 stock* In 2006 Natasha Barrett was awarded the prestigious Nordic Council Music Prize for her work …fetters… released by Aurora. Her new album consists of one work only: “Trade Winds” is a fantastic voyage down to the mythical and physical depths of the wide oceans. The piece is inspired by the vast expanse of sea – unleashing the musical potential of recordings from the 100-year-old sailing ship Dyrafjeld, from above and within harbour, shore and open oceans around the world, and the spok…
Reconfiguring the Landscape
An artistic research project led between 2019 and 2022, investigating how 3-D electroacoustic composition and sound-art can evoke and provoke a new awareness of our outdoor sound environment. The integration of art and technology was central to the investigation that focused on sound, space, time and the utility of outdoor areas. The ideas were tested in artistic creations, and during a three-year period Natasha Barrett created a series of site-specific, outdoor sound installations. These works …
Heterotopia
Persistence of Sound presents a new solo LP from one of the world’s leading voices in electroacoustic music.
Souvenirs Cachés / Innermost
Persistence of Sound presents a split LP from two leading voices in electroacoustic music. It would be hard to find a better-suited combination of contemporary acousmatica on one record.   Beatriz Ferreyra and Natasha Barrett are known for their intense exploration of the movement of sounds through space. Ferreyra has been at the cutting edge of developments in acousmatic music and sound morphology since she joined Pierre Schaeffer’s small team of researchers in his tape experiments at the GRM P…
Bouteilles de Klein
“Bouteilles de Klein contains two types of compositions: works composed for a traditional concert or listening situation (disc 1) and works originally designed as installations (disc 2), where the public is free to approach the work from which ever temporal, spatial or listening strategy they wish. The works may be grouped into four categories. Sub Terra Cycle, The Barely Project, and Microclimates III-VI are each multi-part projects containing both concert and installation works. In the fourth …
Isostasie
A former student of Jonty Harrison and Denis Smalley — two important figures of the British electroacoustics school — Natasha Barrett integrates the approach of these two composers into a proposition which recalls both sound ecology and properly abstract composition. Isostasie is full of these poetic, disconcerting environments, impressionistic pictures of various formats, evocative of her country of adoption, Norway. In this CD, one will encounter various meteorological happenings, the midnight…
