Richard Pinhas

Richard Pinhas is a French guitarist, synthesist and composer, born in 1951. He studied philosophy with Gilles Deleuze and Jean-François Lyotard, completing a doctorate at the Sorbonne in 1974. That year he founded Heldon, an electronic rock band whose debut Electronique Guérilla appeared on his own label, Disjuncta; the group made seven albums by 1979. His solo records include Rhizosphère (1977) and L'Éthique (1982). After nearly ten years away from music he returned in the 1990s with Cuneiform, which reissued his earlier work. He has since recorded several albums with Merzbow, and in 2014 released Welcome in the Void with Tatsuya Yoshida and Tikkun with Oren Ambarchi.
