Rova Saxophone Quartet

Rova Saxophone Quartet is a saxophone quartet formed in the San Francisco Bay Area in late 1977 by Jon Raskin, Larry Ochs, Andrew Voigt and Bruce Ackley, whose surname initials gave the group its name. The quartet works in avant-garde jazz, mixing written composition and improvisation for four saxophones. Steve Adams took Voigt's place in 1988, and that line-up has stayed together since. The group debuted with Cinema Rovaté (1978) on Metalanguage, the label Ochs founded with guitarist Henry Kaiser.
