Stefano Scodanibbio (1956-2012) was born in Macerata, Italy. He studied double bass with Fernando Grillo and composition with Fausto Razzi and Salvatore Sciarrino. A bassist, improviser and composer, he worked with Brian Ferneyhough, Iannis Xenakis, Luigi Nono and Terry Riley, and with the philosopher Giorgio Agamben and the poet Edoardo Sanguineti. In 1983 he founded the Rassegna di Nuova Musica in Macerata. From the 1990s he gave master classes at Rice, Berkeley, Stanford, Oberlin and the Paris Conservatoire. After an ALS diagnosis in 2010 he moved to Cuernavaca, Mexico, where he died.
