The Chosen Themes - Program II
Recorded between 2012-2014, Jared Blum's (of GiganteSound, The Talking Book, Blanketship, Vulcanus 68, et al.) Vision Heat project is a laser guided, hyper vintage conflation of early to mid 80's centric production, montage and style. Recalling such luminaries as Tangerine Dream, John Carpenter, Harold Faltemeyer, Craig Safan and such lofty houses as KPM, Bruton and Parry with nods to oddballs from Russia and the Eastern Bloc, Blum still manages to be forcefully yet effortlessly unique. I…
The Wires Cracked
The recordings for The Wires Cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in October of 2012. I had mentioned in discussing a previous album's construction that I prefer to forget how I build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. This is so that I don't get to precious with them, so that I could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. With the album being relatively fresh in my mind, I can still recall various components to "The Wires Cra…
Eraldus I Eravaldus
Beautiful picture disc LP featuring two full-color reproductions of visual works by Jim Haynes and two new side-long solo compositions. 'The ideal companion pieces to Jim Haynes' masterful album, Telegraphy by the Sea, Eraldus and Eravaldus are both shadowy concoctions built from agitated objects and amplified spaces (a lighthouse, some high-tension wires driven by wind, a very large pile of sand, etc.). These are subtly manipulated field recordings, rusted to perfection and fine-tuned into scra…
States of Rushing
Microtonal articulations and noise concretions form the expressive stylistic elements of this extremely organized network of audio emergencies. They include the spurious frequencies apparently produced by hissing devices and the hypnotic patterns with almost industrial textures that have been calibrated according to mechanical envelopes. In “State of Rushing” it does not seem immediately evident that these sounds are the result of manipulating traditional instruments, such as the tuba. Just attr…
Serge Modular In Hi-Fi
"Head Boggle returns with what is perhaps his most refined and focused work to date. "Serge Modular In Hi-Fi" was recorded in early 2012 at the S.F. City College Electronic Music Lab utilizing a vintage pre-STS Serge Modular Synth system and was conceived as a pseudo aural "cubist" sound piece with an intention to achieve pseudo 3D "cubed" sound through discrete recording and mixing techniques. The only effects utilized were four or more analog delays being played real-time a la dub/reggae mixin…
Ring Mining
Ring Mining unites a psychedelic dream team comprising Brooklynites Heavy Winged and Portland's Inca Ore. On the first side its down to the epic fudge-filled grooves of Heavy Winged to dominate the horizon, blistering through their hallmark freeform avant-metal with an extra fathom or two of depth supplied by the wandering ambience of Inca Ore's toils. Flipping over, Ms. Ore takes to the mic - and it's as if Heavy Winged suddenly turn into a fully fledged rock combo with an actual lead singer. I…
Lydspor One & Two (Blue TB7 Series) LP
LP version. Mika Vainio visited the Moog Sound-Lab in April 2015. He made one his last known solo studio recordings in the form of two vinyl-sized, side-long pieces entitled Lydspor, Danish for "soundtrack". Mika worked almost exclusively with the lab's Moog Modular System 55. This UK sound-lab instrument is the sole prototype model (containing several golden filters) of Moog's sold-out reverse-engineered edition (only 55 units) recreating the 1970s classic. On completion of his sessions Mika an…

Light Cones
Root Strata present the first vinyl release of compelling and otherworldly electro-acoustic improvisation from the adventurous Golden retriever duo. Comprising Jonathan Sielaff's effected Bass Clarinet and Matt Carlson's analog modular synth and digital delay, the duo have thus far stood far out from the kosmische masses with their previous CDrs and cassettes including a beautiful eponymous debut on Root Strata and a stunner for NNA Tapes, but we'd have to say this is the some of the best…

A La Lu La
Amolvacy is Aaron Moore from Volcano the Bear, Dave Nuss from No-Neck Blues Band, and Sheila 16 of the Laboratory Theater Group, NYC. The band creates compositions from its improvisations centered around strong elemental percussion, radical theatrical vocals, and classical acoustic instruments. Recurring themes in Amolvacy’s texts are the pain of relationships, the affirmation of the feminine in myth, the hero’s journey, and continuous need to flame the passions of the heart. “A La Lu La” specif…
Divine Horsemen
Maya Deren journeyed to Haiti to make a film of ritual dances, instead, she came to be accepted as a Voudoun initiate, whose devotees commune with the cosmic powers through invocation, offerings, song and dance of the Voudoun pantheon of deities, or Loa, whom are witnessed as being living gods and goddesses, actually taking possession of their devotees. Deren describes the relationship between magic, science and religion bringing a uniquely lyrical voice to her narrative. This paints a multi-tex…
