Staggering 5LP + 10" boxset covering the German punk, wave and minimal synth scene of the late '70s and early to mid '80s - limited to 600 individually numbered copies for the world** This is Vinyl On Demand's first volume of what looks to be a comprehensive retrospective mining a dynamic phase of German music between 1978-1984. The legendary boutique label here gives focus to unreleased tracks, demos and rare cassette material from 11 bands: PVC, White Russia, No More, Didaktische Einheit…
A new collection of killer, tempered synthesizer workouts from Darren Ho on Spectrum Spools. The seven tracks featured have are have the kind of fragile beauty - and playfulness - that we associate with the early electronic music of Wendy Carlos, Daphne Oram, Raymond Scott and their ilk. There's a strong narrative arc to the album, but each track explores distinct territory: 'Slow Sum' parts one and two' are playful agglomerations of phased analogue patterns, 'In Peru' a Budd/Roedelius-style amb…
An amazing limited LP that features four new Rhys Chatham compositions that were performed live at Kassay's exhibition at Art: Concept in Paris in 2010, and loosely functions as an audio catalogue to the exhibition. Reve Parisien contains compositions that were both performed live and used as a soundtrack through Kassay’s exhibition. These compositions mark a change in direction for Chatham, who has abandoned the trumpet style he developed in the nineties for a non-distorted, less effects-driven…
Lau Nau, Islaja, and Kuupuu all together in one band - it's like the dreamiest aQ daydream come true! All three of these ladies have been responsible for some of the most mystical and beautiful recordings of the last few years, all of which have become permanent favorites with everyone here. Lau Nau, and Islaja's recent recordings have shown them moving toward a more direct approach in their songwriting, but this project really lets all of these ladies dig deep into their textured, exper…
Burnt Hills are a collective from Albany, NY. Every monday they use to jam and host shows at the Heldberg basement, which is also the headquarter of Flipped Out Records, exquisite label and mailorder active for 25 years. If you are lucky enough to attend one of their shows, you will probably realize that you are experiencing something more than a concert… It’s in fact a proper ritual that finds its perfect expression in a music that combines the freedom of free jazz, the fire of garage ro…
Million Year Spree is the first in an occasional series of shared LPs where two like-minded souls meet under one umbrella. Hamilton, Ontario's Fossils have long been the reigning kings of no-fi acoustic sewage, producing an endless stream of outstandingly dire handcut confusion. Calfornia's Darksmith came to public attention last year via their peerless Total Vacuum LP (Hanson). Wilting electronics, floppy turntableism and sun-baked cassette protocol are combined and destroyed in a claustrophobi…
Here’s a new 7″ from the ‘Bestiario’ series by Italian percussionist Enrico Malatesta. Bestiario is a series of short compositions for solo acoustic percussion, recorded live with no overdubs or editing. Using extremely dense micro-structures, broken rhythms and fast tempi on a very reduced percussion set, those pieces are meant to explore a multi-directional sonic dimension, while keeping a high level of tension.
7″ record, black vinyl (cut at dubplates & mastering, berlin), printed labels …
Originally created as a saleable nicknack for an Angst Hase Pfeffer Nase tour of solo guitar shredding but since the destination was Miami, Florida, home of booty bass and sick beats, something which facilitated rump-shaking and toe-tapping seemed more applicable. Two side-long pieces which combine all of the best things known to man: feedback loops, hyperstatic drum machines, digital rot, and frightfully decrepit fairground machinery.
Chris Cooper is the most reliable member of AHPN, as well as…
Call Back The Giants first surprised and delighted the listening world in 2010, with their warmly-recieved eponymous debut album. Since that time, the duo of Tim Goss and Chloe Mutter have been locked in perfect isolation, teasing every nuance of their sound into sharp focus. The Rising presents the results of their toil, exposing Call Back The Giants as true masters of cryptic intent. Homespun keyboard minimalism, wavering teenage laments, and foreboding pronouncements of doom, synthesize into …
In contrast to the melange of its ‘successor,’ Hearing Metal 3 has moments of separation wherein Stuart and Pisaro can be discretely heard. For this piece, Stuart revisits the textures of ricefall (2), delicately and not-so-delicately pouring grains onto surfaces. When combined with Pisaro’s tones, the resonances explore a full territory uncharted by ricefall (2). However, there are still moments of Pisaro/Stuart mixing, like when Stuart’s “sixteen suspended cymbals” bow against Pisaro’s s…
2025 stock ** "In the world of sound library and production music French Avant-garde composer Patrice Sciortino is both unique and universal. His astounding late 1960s and early 1970s recordings for the prestigious Musique Pour L’Image and PSI labels receive their first serious reissue and reappraisal here. Cellos growl and twist with an air evocative of Bernard Hermann, choirs hiss and howl like Alessandro Alessandroni’s ‘I Cantori Moderni’ and the whole thing is as dexterous and playful as Enn…
Stunning collection of works from 1998 to 2008, MY CAT IS AN ALIEN's first decade of adventure in outer space and modern music. The monumental set 'What Space Is Made For' has been recorded in their secret base on the Western Alps, and unlike MCIAA's previous works, it's mostly made of short pieces and songs. In addition to their (un)usual instrumentation (electric and acoustic guitars, space toys, percussion), MCIAA have self-made, modified, and assembled / disassembled primitive electronic equipment. So the result may sound their most 'experimental' as well as their most 'accessible' work to date. An alternate edit of …
Acid Birds was formed in 2004 in Brooklyn, NY by Andrew Barker (drums & percussion), Jaime Fennelly (harmonium & electronics) and Charles Waters (alto saxophone & bass clarinet). NY-based Barker & Waters are both founding members of Gold Sparkle Band, and Fennelly is 1/3 of Peeesseye, and recently embarked on his new solo project Mind Over Mirrors. 'Red Beak, Yellow Eye' opens up the record with wild drumming, electronic screeches and raging alto sax, building to a rapid waterfall of incre…
Transparent Winter follows on from the debut release on the always excellent Time-Lag label and releases on the equally great PSF, Opax and A Silent Place. Painting Petals On Planet Ghost is the trio of Ramona Ponzini with Roberto & Maurizio Opalio (aka My Cat Is An Alien). Here they return for a new full length vinyl release on Blackest Rainbow. PPOPG create some wonderfully fragile and unusual experiments that fall somewhere between folk, psychedelia and drone. Ramono Ponzini sings in Ja…
Lubomyr Melnyk's debut album from 1978, KMH, is an unheralded touchstone of minimalism. Performing solo on piano with a speed that suggests multiple pianos playing together in harmony, Melnyk nearly brings out the full sound of the instrument all at once. His music is lush and maximal yet it possesses the restrained, slowly evolving nature found in music by artists like Steve Reich and Terry Riley. Melnyk developed his unique approach to minimalism while working with dancer/choreographer …
Realised on the ARP Synthesizer in 1972. Piano: Gérard Fremy. Recorded at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, December 1979. Arthesis was realized on the Moog Synthesizer at the University of Iowa in 1973. Originally released on Fringes Recordings in 2003, the cd sold out immediately. Finally available again on Senufo Editions. Eliane Radigue's steady-state, pulse and drone oriented works for synthesizer had cast a wider and wider influence over younger improvisers over the years, especially those …

A wonderful microtonal play.In microtub, ideas of microtonal tuba music are put into action by the three improvisors Robin Hayward, Martin Taxt and Kristoffer Lo. A unique timbre is created when the sound of the three tubas merge together. SOFA is proud to present this groundbreaking piece of music. Robin Hayward developed the first fully microtonal tuba together with the tuba manufacturer B&S in 2009. After exploring the possibilities in just intonation on the regular tuba, he found it necessa…
'when I was young, at night, if the wind was blowing in the direction of our house I could hear the slow beating of the ships' engines.'Vessel was conceived for and presented as a site-specific, multi-channel sound installation in Diapason Gallery, Brooklyn, in October 2008. The composition consists of recordings of cargo ships on the river Waal in the vicinity of Zaltbommel, a small town in the heart of The Netherlands. For my parents. Thanks to Jan Tiggelman (boatsman) and Michael J. …
