Composer Ladislav Kubík was born and educated in Prague. In 1991 he began teaching at Florida State University, and the performers on this CD are drawn from the FSU community. The pieces collected here were written in the first years of the twenty-first century and include instrumental music and Songs of Zhivago, a substantial song cycle for tenor and piano. The cycle consists of six of Pasternak's poems in English translation. Kubík's atonal harmonic language tends toward academic grayness (a p…
Vol. 2, refers to his music as "small music" utilizing collage, abstract environmental sound acoustics, and a flair for beautiful, subtle, shifting layers of sound. Klangbogen (Small Music Vol. 2) features a crinkled array of pulsing, chirping environmentally-tinged sound -- gravitating somewhere near the vortex where the Het Apollohuis artists, Selektion crew and Bill Fontana never quite meet

The Great Learning plays on the title of the influential score of the same name by the radical 60's composer and musician Cornelius Cardew, who brought music and visual art closely together in this work. The Great Learning [1969–1970] owe their visual eloquence to his practice as a graphic artist, and his improvisational and group work was made with an awareness and connection to Flux art. Facsimile of manuscript, size 420x263mm, 23 pages
This 1993 recording from Jad Fair's Half Japanese is the album that pushed the group from the obscure fringe of the U.S. post-punk underground into a full-blown indie rock legend. Aided by the fact that Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Teenage Fanclub were all singing praise for the group, it was now finally time for a wider public to grasp the concept of one of the greatest unsung heroes of American underground rock. The 1989 documentary film about the group, The Band That Would Be King, is a must-see…
"With Nightly, Ateleia's James Elliott artfully evokes the humid Krautrock of Popol Vuh within a whirlpool of lush minimalism, nimble electronica and digital psychedelia. It is a voyage up a primeval river of sound within a steaming jungle of invisible detail -- where the ultimate destination is forever out of reach."

awesome and long out of print book on Lol Coxhill by Jeff Nuttall, 108 pages "There are very few versatile artists that hold the importance Lol Coxhill has in European improvised music. His highly personal style on soprano and tenor saxophone (fluent, lyrical yet capable of shrieking outbursts), his ability to perform with everyone and in every style, from jazz standards to the weirdest electro-acoustic improv, backed by his enduring sense of humor, all draw the figure of a maverick musician." -…
