Kye is proud to present Seattle Symphony, the new LP by Poughkeepsie's Joe McPhee. 'Seattle has become my home away from home, my second city, since first being invited to join trombonist Stuart Dempster for duets in 1984. When the opportunity for a solo concert arose, I learned of the passing of Bill Dixon and Fred Anderson and decided to make the focus of the performance a celebration of the lives, and music, of these two legendary heroes, who both passed away in June of 2010, within 8 …

From the metal chimes of the gamelan, to the Burmese harp, passing through the Chinese Hu Ch'in, a traditional and ancient chordophone-bowed lute, Early Traditional Instruments In Asia is a sheer historical document that represents some of the most ancient instruments known to mankind. 45rpm audiophile vinyl; Limited edition of 300.
Brand new full-length by modular synth experimenter Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (Kranky/DDS/Type/Holy Mountain), with this one revolving around the concept of a soundtrack for African science-fiction. It's an alien trek of a record, soundtracking emotions of wonder, fear and transcendence. "Lowe has made some of the most transcendent music of recent times ('cerebral music in the best sense of the word')" (Music & Literature).
Mark Templeton returns with the third instalment in his Heart trilogy. Following on the heels of Scotch Heart (2011) and Jealous Heart (2013), Gentle Heart is a fitting closure to this story, an album filled with bending, yearning phrases - sounds that feel like they are actually speaking to you from another time, as if they’re being piped into the room where you’re listening today. There is a continued use of elements that hearken to tape machines and older technology combined with acoustic ins…
Rich La Bonte is a musician, writer and editor from upstate New York born in 1946. At age 11 he figured out how to record a piano backwards with his first tape deck and discovered Monk, Mingus and Art Blakey. In 1965 Rich moved to Ithaca, bought an electric guitar and started singing in garage rock band the huns. After the band dissolved, he moved to NYC and played bass and sang in the original cast production of the musical Godspell. In the late 70s La Bonte moved to Hollywood with Shari Famous…
Deep, brooding, spiritual, hypnotically psychedelic, 1974 classic Peace & Love. Mixed that night straight after recording the session, by Lloyd Chalmers and George Raymond to deliver a unique & spontaneous continuation of mood, that blurs the lines beautifully between Reggae & Psychedelia.
Delivering four extended expeditions for Ras Michael's second album, under the moniker Dadawah, with Willie Lindo on rather brilliantly spacey blues guitar.
More than a half century into its development, free improvisation remains nearly impossible to define. Of course there are concrete definitions, canons, and well trod paths - familiar idioms, structures, relationships, textures, and tones, but by its very nature - something free, when practiced with faith, it is elusive - constantly shifting and reforming in the hands of those who call the art form their own. Of the improvisers emerging from the remarkable European contexts over the last …

Dagored present the first vinyl reissue of Sandro Brugnolini's Gli Arcangeli, originally released in 1964. Italian composer and alto sax player Alessandro Brugnolini -- composer behind 1970's Overground (CNPL 801LP) and L'Uomo Dagli Occhiali A Specchio (1975) -- launched his career playing in the super jazz band inspired by Miles Davis, The Modern Jazz Gang. Later, he became very prolific as a composer and performer under his own name, as well as under pseudonyms (such as Narassa). One of the fi…
Second Edition Pressing of 250 copies only. Vinyl-only release, no digital, no CD. Sunn O)))’s feedback architect Stephen O’Malley cranks the amps even louder on his solo vinyl LP Dread Live. This is an extended and extremely loud improvisation for solo guitar (though the colossal heaviness sounds like an army of guitarists). Relentless waves of heavy drones and squeals bombard the listener; the man has turned distortion into an artform. The minimalist electric guitar mantra Dread Live was pe…

Light years ahead of its time, the eerie sound, colorful orchestral blending, and haunting melodies of Music For Heavenly Bodies has become a crate digging classic. America’s fascination with space and its mysteries was at a peak during the 1950s, and this astral awareness got the attention of professional musician, Paul Tanner. Tanner, a trombonist, got his start in the original Glenn Miller Orchestra. The theremin first caught Tanner’s attention as he witnessed a studio player fighting to…
F*ck Fundamentalist Pigs is Stephen O’Malley’s crushing, personal and intensely emotive retort to the fascists and fundamentalists who undermine his and our sense of personal liberty and freedom, particularly in the wake of attacks suffered by Charlie Hebdo magazine and the residents of Paris during late 2015, and the countless poor souls who’ve suffered in the Middle East, Kenya and North Africa. The material itself is just staggering - appearing a mere couple of weeks after Sunn O)))’s Kannon …
By the time Jimmy Raney recorded the ultra-cool Visits Paris, he was already at the peak of his career. Having started in 1944 with the Jerry Wald band, he'd pass through a passel of great jazz combos before ending up with Stan Getz in his classic quintet. There, the guitarist became world-renowned, and just weeks before cutting this album, in 1954, he was voted the number one guitarist in the world by French magazine Le Hot Jazz.
The album finds Raney on a (very) brief break from touring…
A time capsule of atomic-age country, radioactive rockabilly, and other-worldly melodies! Sheldon Allman (the singing voice of Mr. Ed!) brings you this long-out-of-print bunker full of plutonium-charged songs about space and destruction. Features “Crawl Out Through The Fallout” as heard in the award winning video game Fallout 4! Modern Harmonic proudly resurrects this wonderfully mystifying LP! A true creative treasure, the Chicago born and Canada raised Sheldon Allman was a graduate of the…
Sofa has been following Vilde&Inga since they started playing together back in 2010 and when they contacted us with the music from Silfr, there was no doubt in our minds. On Silfr they continue to develop the remarkable interplay from their first album, Makrofauna (ECM), but this time they turn the level up a couple of notches. On Silfr Vilde&Inga presents chamber music of international caliber. Each piece on the album dives into a microclimate which eventually reveals small musical pearls. The …
Just when I thought I had collected all the recordings I could of Mark Wastell playing cello he unearths another gem from his vault, himself and Nikos Veliotis playing acoustic cellos. I started following Mark and the London/Berlin scene only about 6 years ago. I would be hard pressed to pick any other improvising cellists if had to choose a duet to hear. Lachenmann, Xenakis and Scelsi are my favorite cello composers and I imagine these two fellows are avid fans too. I missed out on the lowercas…
I recorded everything live in one take. The record is named "ima" which in Japanese translates to "now" or "in the moment" and is for my significant other Ami. We have unfortunately have had to do a long-distance thing which was/is more intense than I imagined it would be. I am away from her for a majority of each month and in those moments it can take a toll on me. These pieces are meant to capture that emotion, the sense of yearning, the pain of not being able to see someone you want to easily…
LP version. Editions Mego present the first release of a brand new project from JG Thirlwell. Recorded at Self Immolation studios in Brooklyn. This is Xordox.
