Fart Synthesis
'Fart Synthesis' is the 8th episode in EVOL's ongoing Punani series, and was edited from live recordings in Osaka, Kiev and Toulouse between 2008 and 2009. All sounds were synthesized on the fly on various computers. The final tracks were assembled in Barcelona in the spring of 2009 using generative algorithms to splice and rearrange a large amount of sound files. The title of this cassette comes from a series of chats and discussions on digital synthesis techniques by Rubén Patiño (aka Pato) and…
Cathode Deafness
Two cathode ray tube televisions , a tape loop and an echo-looper pedal. The intent is to explore through the two televisions the emptied ether due to the shifting of the TV channels from the aerial signal to the digital . The CRT television becomes a deaf machine, an end in itself, a sort of "bachelor machine". The recordings are the result of a series of live improvisations
It All Falls Apart
The debut release from Polish composer Adrian Aniol, It All Falls Apart, is a slow, fog-enshrouded journey upriver into the mouth of madness. Slow, frigid waves of sound seep in from the misty distance.  White noise clashes with subsonic percussive crashes piling on the unease and tension that builds to an appropriately lunatic conclusion. The B-side features a remix of the entire piece by Steven Hess (Locrian, Ural Umbo). No computers were used on the remix. The piece was literally done …

Solo Voice & Electronics: Memories Of Murder / Always Been A Sto
Massive double album from C. Spencer Yeh of Burning Star Core that mops up two years’ (2007-2008) worth of vocal experiments, running from acoustic throat-splurges and hysterical ticker-tape tirades through the sound of breath caressing microphones and physically impossible computer edited body extensions. The whole deal comes with liner notes from Yeh documenting the various strategies and set-ups, connecting sound poetry and 20th century avant garde techniques with current psych/noise practice…

Everyone takes turn reading poems and singing songs accompanied by harmonium, percussion and guitar. The set starts with Ginsberg’s ‘Plutonian Ode’ and ends with a wasted ‘Copulation Blues’. Orlovsky reads extracts from ‘Clean Asshole Poems and Smiling Vegetable Songs’, Hoogstraten from his book ‘Boxing Days’. Awesome archival find that…
weekend
On this cassette are two days of ambient sound recordings, each originally about twenty-four hours long and sped up to play back at about 128 times the original speed. The recordings were made in my studio, which is located in West Baltimore City. I was interested in hearing what was too low and slow for me to normally hear, or to imagine how I would hear things if I were an insect. Since sound can give an indication of length (sound travels approximately 1 foot per millisecond), my h…
La Catacomb
La Catacomb, purloined from a great abyss of uncertainty, is finally among us. The fourth album proper from Steven R. Smith’s blisteringly psychedelic “power trio” guise, La Catacomb languished for a few years awaiting release from this label & that before landing at Soft Abuse HQ. La Catacomb is the perfect follow-up to Ulaan Khol’s Ceremony trilogy, offering more smoulder than flame, more rumination than provocation. Smith's meticulously-crafted heavy drones & dirges have rarely sound…

Conversations
William Parker has long taken an active role in the presentation of his own art (self-produced records/CDs, concerts, festivals, publications) and that of others.  That initiative continues with this major work, an anthology of musician-to-musician interviews in the lineage of Arthur Taylor’s seminal “Notes and Tones”.  Approximately 12 years in the making, “Conversations” has hallmarks of being a very personal project, spotlighting many musicians who are largely unknown to even avid fans of the…

Recent noise mappings across Europe, along with new …
Experimental Music: Audio Explorations in Australia
This very timely anthology, edited by sound artist, writer and curator Gail Priest, is quite probably the most compelling collection of essays about the Australian experimental music scene to have been compiled. Experimental music has been mostly unrecognised in Australia, but it is in this ‘underground’ area that the major innovations and creative developments in music occur. Through testing perceived boundaries, breaking rules and creating new forms, the artists in this field force us to quest…
