Wewantsounds is delighted to reissue Ziad Rahbani's cult album Amrak Seedna & Abtal Wa Harameyah, released in 1987. Ziad Rahbani is a living legend of Arab music and a cultural icon in his native Lebanon. An accomplished musician, pianist and producer, he is also a celebrated playwright and political activist. The album Amrak Seedna & Abtal Wa Harameyah, released in 1987 on the Beirut-based Relax-in label, is the soundtrack to two plays written by the renowned Lebanese playwright and actor Antoine Kerbaj. The album alternates instrumentals, short interludes and tracks sung by his usual voices including Sami Hawat, Abbas Chahine, Nabil Qazan, blending Arabic music with Ziad Rahbani's usual cocktail of jazz-fusion, funk and groove. In addition to the "James Bond Theme" adapted here as a recurring motif on the "Abtal Wa Harameyah" soundtrack, there are such gems as the funky "Break" and "Al Jeel (The Generation)" and the magnificent "Mashhad Al Hob" with Ziad on Fender Rhodes accompanied by a superb flute. Traditional Arab music is also present with the track "Hake Ad Ma Baddak Fee" followed by "Oghniyat El Gharam" with typical oud and Arab percussion arrangements. This release is exceptional because the album, recorded in Ziad's studio, has only been released in Lebanon. It's a classic sought after by DJs and Arab groove collectors worldwide. The reissue includes the audio remastered by Colorsound Studio in Paris and a 2-page insert with an introduction by Mario Choueiry from the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.
