Black Vinyl. Limited to only 350 copies. Joe Meek’s I Hear A New World stands as one of the most visionary and groundbreaking albums in the history of recorded sound. Created in 1960 with the help of The Blue Men-Rod Freeman, Ken Harvey, Roger Fiola, Chris White, Doug Collins, and Dave Golding-this electronic symphony was Meek’s attempt to capture the sounds of outer space and the future, decades ahead of its time.
Already a legendary figure, Joe Meek was the first truly independent producer, breaking charts in both the UK and USA with The Tornados’ “Telstar,” famously recorded in his own kitchen. Throughout the early 1960s, Meek was at the forefront of British pop, rock’n’roll, and R&B, producing hits for John Leyton, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Outlaws, and many more, while constantly experimenting with radical studio techniques in his home studio. But nothing in his prolific career matched the avant-garde ambition of I Hear A New World. With The Blue Men providing a tight instrumental foundation, Meek layered tape loops, manipulated sounds, and homemade electronics into a surreal, otherworldly soundscape-music that was simply too far out for its era. Only four tracks were released at the time, with the full sessions remaining unheard until their 1991 CD release.
Now, Wah Wah Records brings this pioneering masterpiece back to vinyl, available in a beautifully reproduced, front-laminated sleeve. Choose from a limited edition of 400 black vinyl copies or an ultra-limited run of 100 on transparent purple vinyl.
