Lansdowne Books returns to World Countdown, the music newspaper that Charles Royal published in California every two weeks between August 1966 and July 1969. Original copies are very hard to find today. World Countdown - Volume 2 picks up where the first book stopped and reproduces every issue from July 1967 to May 1968.
These are the months right after Monterey, when West Coast psychedelia was at full strength and the paper followed it issue by issue. In its pages: Love, Moby Grape, Spirit, Blue Cheer, Captain Beefheart, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, next to less familiar names such as The Mystery Trend, Sopwith Camel, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Tripsichord Music Box, The Lollipop Shoppe and Harumi.
The issues are reproduced page by page, with their articles, photographs, adverts and graphics, so the book can be read as a source and looked at as a visual record of the period. Edited by Richard Morton Jack.
