The Hugo Masters - An Anthology Of Chinese Classical Music
Chinese classical music is a much larger field than Western classical music. It covers a huge geographical area as well as a time frame of thousands of years. Although some of China's musical instruments have changed very little in hundreds of years, others were adapted to Western standards under the influence of Russian musicians during the middle of the last century. In some cases, frets were added to non-chromatic instruments and tonalities standardized. The liner notes of The Hugo Masters co…
The Music Of Armenia
*2022 stock. In process of stocking* The entire Music of Armenia series began as a musical detour while David Parsons was on assignment for Celestial Harmonies' The Music of Islam (19907) series. Fortunately, for our history—and evolution—the lost arts, musically speaking, of this biblical area which has and continues to travel the path of love, hatred and destruction, only to someday be revered and loved again, is superbly recreated and created anew. Covering the geographic area of Armenia, as …

In return for the monks' kindness, Parsons decided to release selected Dip Tse Chok Ling ceremonial performances in their or…

Call Of The Valley
** Newly remastered for this edition.  Limited edition pressing ** Shivkumar Sharma, the guitarist Brijbhushan Kabra, and flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia were all aged about 30 when they made Call of the Valley. Shivkumar Sharma, who had made his first solo album in 1960, was responsible for establishing and popularizing the instrument in Hindustani classical circles. Kabra was also having to prove himself because of the guitar's Western and Indian popular music associations Chaurasia's problem was…

Music For Smalls Lighthouse
Plinth (Michael Tanner) has been recording for the better part of a decade, sharing time as a member of numerous other acts. What makes Music for Smalls Lighthouse so special? The album tells a story whose outlines are visible even without the accompanying text; the field recordings are location-specific, and contribute to an overall mood; the composition is tender, the playing exquisite; and there's little else to which it can be compared. Tanner has chosen just the right instruments for the oc…
Sounds
Temporary Super Offer! Born in San Francisco in 1927 Samuel Lloyd Spence is a peculiar piece in the komplicated krautrock puzzle. Throughout the mid 60s Spence kept his hand in popular music via his US connections. His original roots playing clarinet and sax in Californian swing bands had lead to paid work sending compositions to commercial Hollywood groups which lead to a part time interest in electronic instruments and the development of the synthesiser. To balance his classical composition Sp…

The Royal Servants, forerunners of Eulenspygel, were formed in 1965 in Swabia/Germany. Starting up with beat music, they gradually turned to Blues Rock, finally Progressive Psychedelic and released one album named "We". In early 1971, they were one of the first bands to write their songs in German. So they changed their name into Eulenspygel the same year and the first new release was named "2", recorded at the Maschen studio near Hamburg. The front cover caused a scandal because of a burnt chic…
Ausschuss
*Gimmix cover. Exact reproduction (!) of original cover sleeve with 4 sided cover sided insert sheet* The record company came up with the idea to have the second album recorded in the Apple Studios In London, instead of in a crummy German studio. At the beginning of April 1972 Eulenspygel went to London by train with their string instruments to start the recordings. lntercord had booked the band for only five days in the studio: for the German and English (TRASH on Long Hair LHC 277) versions of…
Trash
Official release of English version of 'Ausschuss' album by  Eulenspygel.  'Ausschuss' was intended for release by Intercord in 1972, but never went beyond the status of an 8-track that had been produced for the American market. 'Trash', the title of the English version of 'Ausschuss', contains partly different mixes, consequently English vocals and was partly recorded with the help of English musicians. The recordings took place from 4.4.-8.4.1972 at the famous Apple Studios in London. The band…

Raising Earthly Spirits
Raising Earthly Spirits is dark electro-tribal minimalism from Robin Storey (aka Rapoon). He builds organic atmospheres from low drones. The music is beatless, but there is a definite rhythm. Storey's drones create the rhythm and set the pace. Experimental sounds create auras of intrigue and mystery. The sound design is intricate and detached; the dark soundscapes are sinister with overtones of an evil existence. This is not a disc for listening alone in the dark.
White Island
*First ever vinyl reissue* 'The Nanai people have their songs and instruments. Some of them were used by composer Alexander Lavrov and singer Kola Beldy who is of Nanian descent in their music on this, Kola Beldy’s fourth album. Just as all his records from the 1980s, this is extremely rare and originals in good shape can cost a small fortune. Just in case they ever turn up somewhere outside the vast Russian country. Now for the very outstanding music that as mentiond above is based on centuries…
The New Backwards
*2022 repress. It's in my blood edition. With slipmat. Picture LPs. Unique limited edition!!* "The New Backwards" was conceived by Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson in 2007, revisiting stray tracks which hadn't seemed to gel with the material he had chosen for the more somber "Ape of Naples" from 2005, Coil's initial posthumous release, a sort of requiem and a kiss-goodbye to his then recently deceased partner John Balance. Significantly different to its sister release, this album collects the brill…
