Tewedije Limut
*2023 stock. 100 copies limited edition* Mesfin’s recording career, captured in nearly two dozen 7” singles and numerous reel-to-reel tapes, shows the strata of the most fertile decade in Ethiopia’s 20th century recording industry, when records were pressed constantly by both independent upstarts and corporate behemoths, even if they were only distributed within the confines of this East African nation. Though Mesfin was forced underground by the Derg regime that took control of Ethiopia in 1974…
Discovery 1975-1976
With a Yamaha organ and a dream, Pops Mohamed started his musical journey in the mid-1970s as the bandleader and composer of Black Disco, creating a hip melange of chill-out jazz with futuristic drum machine sounds and spiritual overtones. His cosmic organ transmissions were accompanied by two of the most sought-after session players on the South African scene, the sax and flute wizard Basil Coetzee, who had risen to fame in 1974 as one of the soloists on the hit “Mannenberg,” and Sipho Gumede, …
Outland
The Outland album series was a collaborative endeavor by the visionary US bassist-producer Bill Laswell and the late German musician Pete Namlook that pushed the boundaries of dark ambient and electronic music. Spanning five albums released over a thirteen-year period from 1994, this new boxset serves as a testament to the creative synergy between the two masterminds. At the time the duo joined forces, the New York-based Bill Laswell was already a famous producer with a massive client list that …

The dungeon music masters hidden behind the monicker of Gnoll have created a bleak, sepulchral, eerie album... the soundtrack of a true underground exploration. Designed as a soundtrack of the solitary role-playing game titled "Dungeons" edited by Dungeoneer Games & Simulations, the second chapter of Gnoll is ideal for those who love dark vibrations and sense of wonder. With its analogic synthtizers and its thundering percussions will tran…
Cremated Thoughts
2023 stock. Very much in the tradition of Anthony Braxton's seminal For Alto, or Evan Parker's Monocerous, this wonderful new album by clarinettist Alex Ward is improvised free jazz at its most unencumbered and radical, charting a solitary musician's excursion into pure expression. Divided into four segments, this set was committed to tape at Abbey Road Studios at the beginning of the year, taking in all manner of logic defying techniques and virtuosic sequences, as well as stretching the parame…

Don't Give Up / Tema Di Susie
'Tema di Susie' is one of the main themes from the soundtrack composed by Alessandro Alessandroni for the 1976 Italian noir Sangue di sbirro, known in English as Blood and Bullets, as well as Knell, Bloody Avenger (the Susie in the original title refers to the female love interest of the film's hero, who is on a mission to seek revenge for the gangland murder of his policeman father). At once sweet and sentimental, haunting and melancholic, 'Tema di Susie' stands out from the other tracks in the…
Loveland
*Includes 3 previously unreleased tracks* Moana Pozzi in the late 1980s, following in the footsteps of her illustrious colleague Ilona Staller/Cicciolina, made her official singing debut by recording several songs arranged and produced by Jayhorus, a pseudonym of Carlo Rustichelli's esteemed son: Paolo Rustichelli. The music ended up in several of her films as well as being performed in her hot live shows. Discographically at the time only a few tracks were released on 7" and 12" singles that ar…

Duets 71977
*2023 stock* "The mid 1970s was an exciting time for free improvisation and a great deal was happening all over the world as like minded musicians were drawn to each other by a magnetic pull that had us crossing oceans and large distances of land to work together. England, America, Italy, Germany, Holland, Canada, Japan, Australia and many other territories all boasted scenes of various sizes, and players were mixing and matching in a wide variety of formations, across several generations. Recor…
Lost In June
*2023 stock* "There are no coincidences in life. Everything responds to the principle of cause and effect. In all that exists, what often seems to be the result of “chance happening” always comes from a precise and definite source located “somewhere out there,” but that in fact rests deep within each one of us. Everything is linked. There is a reason for everything that we find on our path, even if we do not understand what its purpose really is at the time of its first manifestation. It is ofte…
Clangs
*2023 stock* "I have a vivid memory of the time I first met Steve Lacy in Milan: I had finally the opportunity not only to know but to perform with one of the myths of the avant-garde scene of the time. As hermetic and polite as his music, Steve was the man who, with his phrase 'play what you feel' tore down the curtain that separated my technique from my creativity. Clang swas the fruit of a number of concerts and two weeks we spent together, sometimes talking, sometimes just simply in silence,…
Quimai
*100 copies limited release* Ambient heads will likely be fully aware of the soporific charms of this cult classic album from Toshimi Mikami. It was written in the 90s and has been released a couple of times on CD since then but is pretty hard to find in any format. Thankfully Night Rhythms now presents a first-time vinyl edition in pink with great artwork and liner notes. The music was originally intended as a soundtrack to gentle activities such as yoga and Tai Chi but has a superbly relaxing …
Without Introduction
*2023 stock* "Halfway between Tarkus and the much darker, weirder, and more complex longform prog bands of the 70s like Gnidrolog, Il Balletto di Bronzo, or Island. There are also mild psych vibes throughout, most prominently from the vocalist who's singing through some seriously tasty echo and reverb most of the time... and yet one of the album's more unusual qualities is that the lead singer doesn't do a ton of singing. I'd be willing to bet that if you took all the parts on the album with voc…
Hannibal
*2023 stock* Hannibal was a band from England. Their debut album, released back in 1970, offers a tasty, psychy, bluesy and jazzy progressive rock, with use of saxophone and organ. Wasted vocals and an original, cryptic underground approach. Solid guitar by Adrian Ingram. Elements of Raw Material, Aquila and Colosseum, but with their own identity.
The Citadel Of Evil
After Kobold, another half-human dungeon-synther took its place in HDK catalog: here's the barbaric... Gnoll! Beware the powerful percussions, the blows of icy and sharp sounds, the brutal attack of analog synthesizers! This first release of Gnoll is the the soundtrack of an epic descent into a dungeon populated by weird creatures and unfathomable threats. Gnoll is devoted to the visionary and bloodthirsty 70's heroic-fantasy literature, overflowing with baroque magic and arcane mystery, to Lin …
Roy Rutanen
*200 copies limited release* Roy Rutanen’s self-titled album has remained a best-kept secret among psychedelia and acid-folk collectors ever since its original release in 1971. What could have been the solid foundation for a promising career in the music industry was abandoned due to the lack of label support, subsequently surviving as a one-off museum piece, accessible to a select few who can afford the price commanded for original copies. This is the time for Roy’s music to shine through with …
Discoteca Sudamericana
Les Chakachas 'Disco Sudamericana' has been released by CBS Sugar in 1974 and when originally came out did not receive the attention it deserved. At least not the same of the previous album, a club classic with dancefloor bangers as 'Stories' and 'The Party'. But if we take a deeper look at the album, 'Disco Sudamericana' is much richer in terms of catchy tracks and killer grooves.  'Supe Cat', 'Liza & Brooks' or 'Selling Mango' are just some of the peaks here. It is then amazing to discover tha…
London Conversation
London Conversation is the first album by John Martyn, released on Island Records in 1967. Largely self-penned, the album is much more folk oriented than his blues/jazz tinged later releases. Recording was completed by 9 August and the album was released when Martyn was 19 in October 1967. The album reputedly cost £158 to record. The cover photo was taken by Barry Wentzel on the roof of Island Records boss Chris Blackwell's flat in Cromwell Road, London.
