“Make Up is a funky, groovy, sinister masterpiece”
Joe Kenney argues against Julian Cope's dismissal of the album as unnecessary for casual fans, and rates it highly as a funky, sinister record. He finds it fuller and more produced than earlier Flower Travellin' Band, even though much of the set is live. He hears Sabbath in the riffs of All The Days and Slowly But Surely, and follows Look At My Window from its soft-rock opening into long organ and wah-wah solos. He places it below Satori but above Anywhere.
