Aiyun Huang

Aiyun Huang is a Taiwanese-Canadian percussionist, born in Kaohsiung. She studied at the University of Toronto (BA, 1995) and UC San Diego (MA 1998, DMA 2004), where her teacher was Steven Schick. She won first prize and the audience prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 2002 and co-founded the Canadian new music trio Toca Loca in 2001. She taught at McGill University from 2006 to 2017 and is now professor of percussion at the University of Toronto, where she directs the TaPIR Lab on technology and performance. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2024.
