The Everything And The Nothing
First time on vinyl, originally released in 2008, remastered by Stephan Mathieu. Celer is a husband (Will) and wife (Danielle) duo from California that use a variety of strings as the basis for their sound. Cello, viola, violin and the sounds are mixed in with field recordings, choir, live theremin and then tape spliced and re-assembled in varying lengths to create a loop base. Those sounds are then sampled, layered and processed. The result is a shimmering orchestra. Periods of silence between …
Xièxie
*2022 repress * Will Long’s Celer project returns with a vinyl edition of Xièxie, a poetic suite melding location recordings made during a trip to Shanghai and Hangzhou in 2017; with diaphanous, layered synths that beautifully bring his subject to life. A week before leaving, I bought a dictionary and phrasebook. Mastered by Stephan Mathieu, layout by Rutger Zuydervelt. Covered in rain, during the days and even the nights, Shanghai was lit in a glow, a mist turning to a constant grey fog. Buildi…
I Love You So Much I Can't Even Title This
**2022 stock. Edition of 150 copies ** In November of 1938, Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' was broadcast on radio for the first time. It was regarded as "full of pathos and cathartic passion", and "perfect in mass and detail". While it was generally well-received, it was also criticized as "suffering from repetitiousness", and being "dull and utterly anachronistic." It is often labeled as 'the saddest music in the world', and is one of the most recognizable pieces of popular classical musi…
In Light of Blues
Will Long's work as Celer traverses a nebulous and morphing galaxy of sound that centers around textured ambience and extended durational pieces. A long-time resident in Tokyo, his work explores the way in which sound can operate in an evolving atmosphere, coalescing with everything, and everyone, around it. With In Light Of Blues, Long pivots away from long-form works to create a series of vignettes that capture the essence of his aesthetics interests. The record condenses and refines his compo…
Being Below (LP)
* 150 copies * Celer's ‘Being Below’ is a collaborative release between Past Inside the Present (US) and Two Acorns (JP).  This is a mini-album of short songs created with digital and analogue instruments. Written with a structure that reflects shifting states, overlooking the past and future as a split pathway with the present endlessly fluctuating between. The pangs of rumination. An exercise in loop-less writing.

Future Predictions
**Limited edition, custom-made clamshell box, 4xCDs in pocket sleeves, and 16-page booklet** Will Long’s Celer project returns with an expansive 4CD set, a beautiful rendering of field recordings and foley sounds in gaseous suspension, recorded to high quality recycled reel-to-reel tape and providing us with some much needed mental solace right now.  As opposed to the gauzy reflectiveness of last year’s 'Memory Repetitions’ for Smalltown Supersound, 'Future Predictions’ was instead intended as a…
Memory Repetitions
**Limited Edition 5 x CD box**Operating outside the limelight in the underground, Will Long has produced prolifically across genres, monikers, and countries since 2006. Predating his minimal house contributions under his given name to DJ Sprinkles’ Comatonse label and Smalltown Supersound, Long has put forth over a hundred collections of ambient compositions in stream of consciousness fashion under the name Celer. A native to America, Long has been based in Tokyo since 2011, where he has continu…
Compendium
Late in 2011, Celer and Machinefabriek teamed up and recorded the 7" 'Maastunnel / Mt. Mitake', to coincide with their tour in The Netherlands. They then decided to make it into a trilogy of 7" singles, all self-released in limited editions. Now, Irrational Arts has compiled the six tracks of the 7"s onto a CD‚ titled "Compendium (Collected Singles and Remixes)". The CD also includes a new, additional track by Celer and Machinefabriek, and remixes by Stephan Mathieu, Sylvain Chauveau and …
How Could You Believe Me When I Told You That...
Inspired by the American Southwest, "How could you believe me when I told you that I loved you when you know I've been a liar all my life" is the new album by American musician Celer, aka Will Long, now living in Japan. Sourced from an electric piano and wooden flute, tape loops were copied to sun-baked cassette tapes, and a warped vinyl tester, using the most basic format-inherent effects. Based on an idea of primitive Americana, it can be seen as a mediation on the different sides of music and…
Sky Limits
Hill towns and empty mountains pass by, but the smoothness of the train blurs the view, and it's easier than ever to fall asleep in the low morning sunlight coming in through the train's windows', writes Will Long, the artist behind the Celer moniker, in his liner notes to Sky Limits, one of his most fulfilling records to date. First created as a duo project in 2005, Celer has been US-born musician Will Long's solo vehicle since 2009. Through the years and thanks to an astounding rate of produc…
Evaporate and wonder
Another good release from Experimedia, this time focussing on the hushed, tremulous drones of Celer. It's rare to hear ambient music as confident as consummate as this - Celer pack an inordinate amount of textural and harmonic incident into their lengthy compositions without ever disrupting the surface of calm and stillness - listening to 'Bedded In Shallow Blades' and 'Repertoire of Dinless Shifts', you feel like you're gliding. Honestly, we're the first to admit that there's a surfeit of neo-c…
Voyeur
Husband-and-wife duo, Will Long and Danielle Baquet-Long, who self-released handmade items and created sound for installations and exhibits along with producing conventional releases. "A few years ago I was commissioned by a film company in California to create a musical score for a film inspired by the Hitchcock 1954 film Rear Window, but with a more surrealist, two-sided viewer plot. As filming hadn't begun, I was given the screenplay and timeline, and asked to make specific music that might f…

Vestiges Of An Inherent Melancholy
last copies, special offers...Second vinyl LP from this formerly active American duo of Will Long and Danielle Baquet-Long. Vestiges Of An Inherent Melancholy follows on from the recent pairing of releases on Basses Frequences and features 2 sides of unearthed recordings that were created between December 2006 and July 2008. These two sides find the duo creating some truly beautiful drone works with their use of an organic and electronic palette of instrumentation; cello, violin, pipe organ, ele…
Hei / Sou
Celer & Machinefabriek are having a great year. In addition to their separate releases, they’ve toured, released a download set of the tour, and completed a trilogy of fine vinyl singles, of which Hei/Sou is the final piece. Perhaps the most exciting thing about their collaboration is the extent to which each seems to have been inspired and invigorated by the presence of the other. By pushing each other into new territories, they’ve each upped the ante, as best demonstrated on Celer’s late…
I, Anatomy
Celer combine the chapters of 'All At Once Is What Eternity Is' and 'The Die That's Caste' EPs with new side 'I, Anatomy' to form a sumptuous extended narrative. The new material comprises two play-thru sides expanding and contracting between string swept serenity, blooming drone, location recordings and back again making for a truly transportive, blissful experience. Much the same can be said of their two EPs which were originally issued on 3" CD in 2007. Again using strings, theremin, t…
Levitation and breaking points
Originally self-published as a very limited triple 3" CDR release in May, 2009, Celer's Levitation And Breaking Points is now available again on CD - this time limited to 300 copies. Surely one of Celer's most subtly beautiful and uplifting albums out of an already beautiful, highly prolific and much celebrated discography of work. Especially magical o listen to in the early evening as the sunlight fades below the horizon... a balm for the soul.
