David Rosenboom

David Rosenboom, born in Fairfield, Iowa, in 1947, is an American composer and a pioneer in the use of neurofeedback: in the 1970s he built systems in which the brainwaves of performers shaped the music, documented on Brainwave Music (1976) and in his book Biofeedback and the Arts. He has also worked with cross-cultural collaborations and compositional algorithms, and has performed with the mridangam master Trichy Sankaran. He studied composition, performance and electronic music at the University of Illinois with Salvatore Martirano, Lejaren Hiller and Kenneth Gaburo among others, taught at Mills College and for three decades was dean of music at CalArts, where his students have included several generations of experimental composers.
