David Tudor

Country: United States

David Tudor (1926 to 1996) was a legend of American experimental music. For years after the Second World War he was the only pianist to devote himself systematically to the most radical new music, giving the first performances of John Cage's works, including 4'33", and of Boulez, Stockhausen and Feldman, and becoming a touchstone for the whole avant-garde with a technique and a fearlessness no one could match. From the 1960s he set the piano aside and turned to live electronics, building his own circuits and treating them as unpredictable instruments to be played.
