Death

Country: United States

Death is a rock band formed in Detroit in 1971 by the brothers Bobby (bass, vocals), David (guitar) and Dannis Hackney (drums). Often described as proto-punk, they split in 1977 almost unheard, and became known more than thirty years later when Drag City issued their 1975 recordings as ...For the Whole World to See (2009). Death started out as Rock Fire Funk Express and took its new name in 1973 after the brothers' father died. After the split Bobby and Dannis moved to Burlington, Vermont, and made gospel rock records as The 4th Movement. David Hackney died of lung cancer in 2000.

Spiritual/Mental/Physical
‘Spiritual-Mental-Physical’ is a collection of wild early Death demos, presenting the three young Hackney brothers consolidating their powers as they embark on a trip into pure rock and roll music. The album comes with liner notes from Bobby Hackney Sr. explaining the genesis and meaning of the songs included.
For The Whole World To See
Classic proto-punk from 1970s Detroit. Raw with little polish, the record showcases the organic power relationships within the trio of brothers. The Hackneys were first influenced by soul & funk music but it all changed when they saw Iggy and the Stooges. Inspired by The Who, Alice Cooper & Led Zeppelin; the brothers finally see their first full length release, remastered & ready for the world to hear.
