Demetrio Stratos

One of the most creative artists in the whole italian rock scene of the 70's, Demetrio Stratos (real name Demetrious Efstratios) was in fact born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1945 from a greek family, and came to Italy in 1962. In 1972 he formed Area, one of the most interesting and influencial italian progressive bands. His works with Area are well known and documented, but Stratos kept following his studies on the use of the human voice, and his solo albums are a great demonstration of his capabilities. He collaborated with various italian and international avantgarde artists, and guested on many contemporary music albums. Stratos underlined the link between language and the psyche and highlighted their connection with the sounds made by the vocal chords, which he considered as musical instruments.

Pic_nic@Valdapozzo
*2023 stock* The fact that this album features not only new material by Picchio dal Pozzo, but also incorporates posthumous parts by legendary Area frontman Demitrio Stratos, should be enough to spur the fans of either or both ensembles into action.

Cantare la voce
* 500 copies, numbered edition. Clear Splatter Vinyl * Reissue of a 1978 LP out on Cramps Records. Demetrio Stratos's research into the field of phonetic and experimental poetry led to his freeing his voice every naturalistic restraint, restoring its depth and dimension. The result of this can be heard in the two recordings of his compositions "Metrodora" and "Cantare la Voce" where what sounds like an instrument is in fact his voice.
le Milleuna, pièce per Danza di Valeria Magli
This is easily the most frightening and naked recording by Greek vocalist Demetrio Stratos, scripted by poet Nanni Balestrini and later choreographed by Valeri Magli after his death. The text of Le Milleluna was 100 words, all beginning with the letter "s" and all of which had some sexual allusion or connotation. The show that Stratos performed was completely free of all academic exploration. Instead, he had internalized each of these words for an articulation original to the performance of the …
Concerto All Elfo 1978
* 500 copies, 180 gr. Blue vinyl *The lost live album by the late great Demetrio Stratos, Area's vocalist and leader. Recorded back in 1978, this album has been the missing title in the remastered reissue series on Cramps.
Metrodora
180 gr. Red Vinyl. Digitally remastered at 192 khz and 24 bit. From the original master tapes * From the original master tapes, 1st time rpressed on LP. Mere words can’t describe the impact of an album where the only instrument is the voice of Demetrio Stratos (actually, there are few synthesizer inserts played by Paolo Tofani). Originally released in 1976: a unique work where Demetrio Stratos makes any kind of experiments and sounds with his voice, reaching and going over the limit of human cap…
Radius
**Red vinyl, numbered edition** Alberto Radius first solo album - Originally released on Numero Uno label, cat. # ZSLN 55153. September, 1972.- and regarded as one of the Italian prog rarest though not particularly representative of the genre, was issued in 1972 when Formula Tre were still active, and was a sort of jam session with important Italian musicians of the time, including Franz Di Cioccio from Premiata Forneria Marconi and Area's Demetrio Stratos and Giulio Capiozzo along with Gianni D…
Daddy's Dream
* 140Gr. Purple vinyl, numbered * Perhaps one of the least well-known, yet most sought-after Demetrio Stratos recordings, his first (and only) single released in 1972 just before joining Area...The tension between Stratos's dense, foreboding voice and orchestral production is unusual, to say the least.
Recitarcantando
*Yellow Vinyl. Gatefold Cover * Of all of Demetrio Stratos' recordings, this 1978 live date with violinist Lucio Fabbri is easily the most accessible and least adventurous. That said, Recitarcantando is also perhaps the most songlike and beautiful of Stratos' albums and deserves recognition for showcasing the vocalist as a singer of uncommon power and originality. This album does showcase various aspects of the investigations undertaken on his previous studio recordings, including the "Investiga…
La Cantata Rossa Per Tall El Zaatar
2024 restock. Demetrio Stratos from Area teamed up with jazz musicians Gaetano Liguori anf Giulio Stocchi for this special album released back in 1976, after the Tall El Zaatar massacre in Palestine. Stratos delivers the sung words (and the guttural excursions) together with Concetta Busacca while bassist Roberto Del Piano and drummer Pasquale Liguori are heads of the jazzy rhythm section. G. Ligouri's piano playing is minimalistic and nice in a contemporary classical way. Sometimes the album ev…
suonare la voce
RESTOCKED! Finally available again, a must have early footage video documenting the incredible performances and vocal techniques of Demetrio Stratos, lead singer and organ player for Area. "Suonare la voce" is the most complete video collection of both performances and vocal studies of Demetrio Stratos during his solo years, with John Cage, M. Cunningham ecc. The VHS release on EMI has been longtime out of stock, now this very rare footage is available again in digital format.
