Gabriel Ferrandini is a Portuguese drummer and percussionist, born in California in 1986 and based in Lisbon. He came up in the city's free improvisation scene, where he is known for his work in RED Trio and in Rodrigo Amado's Motion Trio, and his own records move from improvised jazz towards composed pieces with electronics, amplifiers, choir and strings. Ferrandini has played with Evan Parker, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Axel Dörner, John Butcher, Nate Wooley, Peter Evans and Thurston Moore, and forms the duo PeterGabriel with saxophonist Pedro Sousa.
The Portuguese percussionist turns drums and cymbals into generative sources: seven tracks of spectral tones, sub-bass rumble and warbly VHS tones, shaped by electronic manipulation and by the chromatic dissonance of Carlo Gesualdo.
