Glenn Branca

Country: United States

Glenn Branca (1948-2018) was an American composer and guitarist, born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who died in New York City. He came out of the late 1970s no wave scene with the band Theoretical Girls, then wrote for large ensembles of loud electric guitars, including instruments he built himself. He is known above all for his series of symphonies, among them works for 100 electric guitars. Branca's EP Lesson No. 1 (1980) and the album The Ascension (1981, 99 Records) set out his guitar-ensemble sound, with Lee Ranaldo among the players on the latter.
