Gruppo di Tricarico

Country: Italy

Gruppo di Tricarico is the ensemble founded in the mid-1970s by Antonio Infantino and named after Tricarico, a town in Basilicata in southern Italy, later known as the Tarantolati di Tricarico. The group reworks the traditional music of Basilicata around the tarantella and the ritual of tarantism, with songs in Lucanian dialect that mix festive and religious themes with protest against the poverty of the peasant south. The group played at the Folkstudio in Rome, the club run by Giancarlo Cesaroni.
