Jeph Jerman
Jeph Jerman was born on Guam in 1959. His only formal training was drum lessons and a theory class in high school. In the 1980s he ran the cassette label Big Body Parts and released much of his work under the name Hands To. After settling in Seattle he joined the city's improvising scene, began performing with natural found objects, and in 1999 formed an "animist orchestra" whose pieces were written for stones and shells. That same year he moved to Cottonwood, Arizona, where he still works with field recordings and homemade devices.
