Juju
Juju was a spiritual jazz group founded in 1971 by the saxophonist James "Plunky" Branch (born 1947), with musicians he had met in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band joined modal jazz, African percussion and openly political lyrics, and recorded two albums for Strata-East. It later continued as Oneness of Juju, Plunky & the Oneness of Juju and then Plunky & Oneness. Juju's debut A Message From Mozambique (Strata-East, 1973) dealt with the Soledad Brothers case and the liberation struggles in Angola, Mozambique and South Africa.
