London Improvisers Orchestra
The London Improvisers Orchestra is a large ensemble devoted to free and conducted improvisation, active in London since 1998. It grew out of Butch Morris's 1997 UK tour, after which Steve Beresford, Evan Parker, Ian Smith and other players from that group decided to keep working with his Conduction method. Beresford is still involved with the orchestra, whose members have played regular monthly concerts for most of its history. Three concerts at the Red Rose in late 1998 started the orchestra's run, and later concerts moved to venues including Cafe Oto, Iklectik and St Mary's.
