Masahiro Sugaya
Masahiro Sugaya is a Japanese composer and producer who emerged from the kankyō ongaku (environmental music) scene. Much of his work has been for Pappa Tarahumara, the Tokyo performance company founded in 1982 by Hiroshi Koike, whose stage works combined dance, theatre, music and visual art. Sugaya's activity has ranged from arrangements for the acoustic guitar duo Gontiti to acousmatic diffusion at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris. He first self-released his scores for Pappa Tarahumara. Horizon, Volume 1 on Empire of Signs gathers early scores for the company.
