Michael Garrick

Michael Garrick (1933-2011) was an English jazz pianist, composer and teacher, born in Enfield, Middlesex. Largely self-taught, he became known in the 1960s for joining jazz with poetry readings and for his work in the Don Rendell-Ian Carr Quintet, and later for large jazz pieces written for choir, such as Jazz Praises, which was performed at St Paul's Cathedral in London. Garrick graduated in English literature from University College London in 1959 and became musical director of the Poetry and Jazz in Concert roadshow devised by Jeremy Robson.
