Michael Rother

Michael Rother is a German guitarist and composer, born in Hamburg in 1950. He co-founded Neu! with drummer Klaus Dinger in 1971 and then formed Harmonia with Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius of Cluster. His repetitive, melodic guitar lines over steady motorik rhythms are a core part of the sound later called krautrock. Rother and Dinger had played briefly in a 1971 line-up of Kraftwerk with Florian Schneider before starting Neu!.
