Noah Creshevsky

Noah Creshevsky (1945-2020) was an American composer of electronic music, born Gary Cohen in Rochester, New York. He called his approach hyperrealism: music built from recorded sounds of voices and instruments, cut and combined in ways no live performer could produce, first on magnetic tape and later with samplers and computers. Creshevsky studied with Nadia Boulanger and Luciano Berio and took a master's degree at Juilliard in 1968. He taught at Brooklyn College from 1969 to 2000 and directed its Center for Computer Music, and also taught at Juilliard, Hunter College and Princeton.
