Oval

Oval is a German electronic music project founded in 1991 by Markus Popp, Sebastian Oschatz, Frank Metzger and Holger Lindmüller, and run by Popp alone since 1995. The early group avoided synthesizers and built its tracks from compact discs damaged with felt pens, turning the skips into rhythm. That method made Oval one of the starting points of glitch music. Oval released Wohnton on Ata Tak in 1993, then Systemisch (1994) and 94 Diskont (1995) on Mille Plateaux. Thrill Jockey issued Dok (1998), Ovalcommers (2001) and, after a long pause, O (2010), followed by Scis (2020) and Romantiq (2023).
