Pentangle were a British folk group formed in London in 1967, and one of the most original bands of the folk revival, joining traditional song to jazz, blues and early music. The line-up was a meeting of virtuosi: the guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, the singer Jacqui McShee, the bassist Danny Thompson and the drummer Terry Cox, a rhythm section drawn from jazz. Albums such as The Pentangle, Sweet Child and Basket of Light (1969) balanced delicate acoustic interplay with improvisation, and McShee's clear voice against the twin guitars became the group's signature.
