Roxy Music formed in London in the early seventies around Bryan Ferry, with Andy Mackay on saxophone and oboe, Phil Manzanera on guitar, Paul Thompson on drums and Brian Eno on synthesizer and tape treatments. The first two albums, Roxy Music (1972) and For Your Pleasure (1973), mixed art-school glamour, fifties pastiche and VCS3 noise. Eno left in 1973, Eddie Jobson took his place, and the sound grew smoother up to Avalon (1982), their last studio album.
