Tenjo Sajiki

Tenjo Sajiki was the Tokyo underground theatre company led by the poet, playwright and filmmaker Shuji Terayama (1935-1983). Founded in 1967, it was one of the main troupes of the angura scene, staging provocative plays in unconventional venues such as the streets of Tokyo, and abroad. Its music, written above all by the composer J.A. Seazer, mixed psychedelic rock, Buddhist chanting, organ and folk, and survives on a series of records tied to the plays and to Terayama's films.
