The BBC Radiophonic Workshop
The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was the sound effects and electronic music unit of the BBC, set up in 1958 by Daphne Oram and Desmond Briscoe in the Maida Vale Studios in London. It produced music and effects for radio and television using tape manipulation, musique concrète methods and, later, synthesisers. It is best known for Delia Derbyshire's 1963 realisation of Ron Grainer's Doctor Who theme. The Workshop officially closed in 1998.
