Ulrich Krieger

Ulrich Krieger was born in 1962 in Freiburg, Germany, and is based in Los Angeles. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and in Berlin (Universität der Künste and Freie Universität), and has taught composition and experimental sound practice at CalArts since 2007. On saxophone he developed what he calls acoustic electronics, producing sounds that seem electronic from acoustic means. He transcribed Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music for chamber ensemble, founded Text of Light with Lee Ranaldo and Alan Licht in 2001, and played in Metal Machine Trio with Reed and Sarth Calhoun. For Mode he recorded Cage's saxophone works.
