The Curfew Recordings
The Curfew Recordings were made at a disused industrial site on the river Tyne in 1984 and feature John Smith (then publisher of Interchange magazine), Sean Dower (ex Death Magazine 52 & later of Bow Gamelan Ensemble) And John Mylotte (of the band Metgumnebone). The recordings were made inside a 10m tall and 26m wide, steel-plated cylindrical, structure, once used for bitumen storage. The instrumentation is acoustic and the recordings are unprocessed (the space however adds a remarkable reverb).…
Home
in just a few short years multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, composer and all round renaissance man Peter Broderick has shot from being a darling of the underground to something far more substantial. Constantly touring, Peter has accrued fans far and wide with his alluring folk songs and gorgeous post-classical compositions, but all this had to start somewhere.A few years ago Peter was kind enough to send Type a package of all his material prior to writing ‘Float’. This came in …
Night within
Last copies, sold out at source: guest contributions include David Sylvian, Daniel O'Sullivan (Miracle and Ulver), Duke Garwood and many others with the two creators, Daniel Lea and Matthew Waters, both taking a directorial role. The album was sculpted in Reykjavik by Ben Frost, enhanced by his signature aural physicality and visceral sub bass. The album is a vast collision of sound, from free brass and woodwind to "geometric" bowed cymbals and metallic percussion. But more than simply music, the…

Ballet Statique
"m=minmal continues the collaboration with electronic music legend Conrad Schnitzler. We are happy, after 30 years, to re-release one of the key works from Conrads large adventurous  backcatalog.Ballet Statique is not only a musical milestone but also a highlight of music production. It was recorded in 1978 at the legendary Paragon Studio / Berlin by Peter Baumann – Tangerine Dream in the same period when other masterworks like Cluster – „Großes Wasser“ and solo recordin…
At The Helm
East New York Ensemble de Music came out of the diverse community of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, where African, West Indian & black American cultures converged. First and foremost a deep Spiritual Jazz record, At The Helm also incorporates elements of the West Indies, and both the Near and Far East. Originally issued in a very small pressing by Folkway Records in 1974, at a time when the label was doing some great underground recordings! The sound is loose and free – spiritually building in a man…
Black Goddess
Black Goddess was written and directed by Ola Balogun (recognized as one of Nigeria's most renowned directors) but shot and cast in Brazil and released in 1978. The soundtrack was composed and produced by one of Nigeria's most successful and original musicians Remi Kabaka (who has played with Steve Winwood, Paul Simon and Ginger Baker, amongst others). The record was originally issued in both Nigeria and Brazil, but recorded in Lagos, using four of the Nigerian music scene's most innovative…
In Search Of Light
In Search of Light is the full-length follow-up to the well-received Fountain (RS 057CD), Danny Paul Grody's debut solo release. Many listeners no doubt recognize Grody from his work in San Francisco-based groups Tarentel and The Drift. As a solo artist, he produces wistful, poignant music culled principally from acoustic guitar and synthesizer. Grody's work recalls aspects of the post-Takoma school in that fingerpicked, cyclical melodies make up the crux of many of his recordings. However,…
Human Fly
Another curveball from the Not Not Fun camp, 'Human Fly' pits Wolf Eyes noisenik Nate Young against veteran garage punk drummer Dave Shettler and while their collaborative moniker might be a little zany, their brand of dancefloor-ready industrial/techno variations is tough to ignore. Veering from hazy EBM-flecked speed garage (we're not kidding, take a listen) on the title track to Chicago bleep on the zonked 'Cyber Rebels' there's a sense that Young and Shettler are not only well studied…
Flamingo Breeze
Absolutely Incredible Electronic Soundworks and Pop pastiche, sort of like Oneohtrix Point Never crossed with ariel pink and Animal Collective, all fed through a 1980's television soundtrack filter and recorded to tape over and over again. The exceptional Olde English Spelling Bee label presents a remastered issue of Sam Meringue's out-of-print tape released in summer '09 by Not Not Fun, complete with full colour sleeve and a digital download coupon from the label itself. In a similar vein …

Manitutshu
In January 2011 Mark was invited by Erik Wiegand (aka Errorsmith) to make some presets for his new software synthesizer which he was building for Native Instruments. After developing about 40 sounds*, Mark decided to rework his UL8 project by extending the pattern generating systems used in its construction, which he then connected to the sounds produced in Erik's synthesizer. The result is this double 12" single, featuring 9 tracks and a remix from Mark's friend and colleague Mat Steel. …
Contemporanea
**Very rare original 1975 LP masterpiece, few copies available** Another twisted gem from the dark Italian maestro, Egisto Macchi of Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza fame. "Contemporanea" was released on the Italian label, Gemelli, in 1975, and was Egisto Macchi's 11th full-length library music LP and largely considered one of his best records. Egisto Macchi happily experiences all the possibilities of sound which at the time, the early seventies, could be imagined recreating all the …
936
Sometimes it feels so simple: two of our favorite people in one of our favorite bands release one of our favorite records of all time. 2009’s Imaginary Falcons was its own genius slushpile of tape-hissy drift-dub haze anthems, no question, but 936 takes every facet of the Peaking Lights mighty diamond and shines it to fluorescent perfection. The songwriting is insane; “All The Sun That Shines,” “Amazing & Wonderful,” “Tiger Eyes (Laid Back),” etc, all seep into yr mindstream and float there like…
Monotonprodukt 07
A holy grail of electronic music reissued on vinyl for the first time in 30 years, beautiful pressing housed in a deluxe gatefold edition limited to just 300 copies for the world* 'Monotonprodukt 07' has certified holy grail status in the world of electronic music. Originally issued by Konrad Becker aka Monoton in 1982 on a then-tiny run of 500 copies, it has been marked out as a genuine milestone by successive waves of respected institutions, featuring in The Wire magazine's '100 Records…
An Imaginary Country
Double LP version: An Imaginary Country continues from the trajectory of his last album, the critically acclaimed Harmony in Ultraviolet, while also showing a few new tricks. Tim has incorporated more pulses into this work and also works with a sound palette including overdriven mellotron strings and synthesizer. At times this album is less overtly aggressive than previous works, but the notion that this is pastoral work would be dead wrong as there are plenty of the agitated crescendos that he …
Preludes a la vie
LAST COPIES, already out of print: Préludes à la vie (Preludes to Life) combines pieces from 1972 to 1991 in two electronic operas. In Le prisonnier du son (The Prisoner of Sound) a single human voice tells the story of a lone character trapped in a world of manipulated sounds. The title piece is a series of technical exercises in the possibilities of musique concrète. This second album on empreintes DIGITALes, as with the first one, consists of very different works which are quite separated in …
A Prayer For Light
Heresy of the Free Spirit is a trio comprised of Dutch lute player, Jozef Van Wissem and Brooklyn based multi-instrumentalists, Che Chen (of True Primes) on violin, bowed rawap, bass recorder, percussion and tape machines, and Robbie Lee (of Howling Hex, Baby Dee) on portative organ, bass recorder, guitar, banjo and electronics. Using early European as well as non-western instruments and electronics, the trio plays arrangements of Van Wissem’s lute compositions as well as free improvisations tha…
Demon Parade
"Denmark's drone demons return with another gloomy, dark, intense drone-rock based release. Edition of 500 on black vinyl, pro-printed matte jackets, shrink wrapped."
Spoils
For this latest album Caledonian folk impresario Alasdair Roberts teams up with expected collaborators like Alex Neilson (whose drumming and percussion work has illuminated many a free-folk record over recent years, a few of which Roberts has been involved with) and more unusual contributors such as Niko-Matti Ahti of Fonal's Kiila. Perhaps more than ever, Roberts' music invites comparisons to Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, traveling sufficiently far from the trad songwriting fold to be thought of as 'a…
