LP version. "1979's 154 represented the final tableau in Wire's Harvest
released '70s triptych and was the first Wire album to be released to a
universal set of five star reviews from the British rock weeklies, thus
it represented the point when the British 'pop culture establishment'
publicly recognized Wire's primacy. '154 makes 95 percent of the competition look feeble' wrote Nick Kent in the NME, 'Wire are achieving a lot of things other--and more recognized--names have been striving fo…
Presented as an 80-page hardback book -- the size of a 7-inch, but obviously much thicker. If Pink Flag proposed an almost cut and paste approach to deconstructing rock history, the Wire's Chairs Missing proposed something more radical, a definite futurism with much less influence from its antecedents. Chairs Missingwas at once more stark and more lush than its predecessor and has exerted its own influence on the course of cultural history, having laid down one of the earliest (if not the earlie…
Nikolaienko's upcoming full length is a playful and intriguing archive of sounds influenced by the works of electronic music pioneers and experimenters. The album acts as a tribute to early-electronics' golden era, playing out as a requiem, pondering the theme of nostalgia through warm analogue, space-aged sounds. For the artist, it’s an odd and ironically funny sound document, which he hopes declares some other way that electronic music can be today.
"Rel012 is the recorded debut of the trio Nmperign with Jake Meginsky. Pressed on 160 gram copper plate mastered vinyl, Rel012 features Nmperign in an energized, turn-on-a-dime form. Prodded by Meginsky into unnamable, angular textures, the trio is agile and unpredictable, occupying many angles of musical extremes. Rel012 is a one-sided LP cut to 45 for Maximum Dynamic range. Featuring a striking cover, designed by Eli Keszler, printed by Ashley Paul. A light blue fold-over paper is integrated …
Dave Henson has been producing electronic music on the fringes of any discernible scene since the late 90s, operating outside of the boundaries of good taste and slowly formulating his own very particular sound. Since 2010 he’s been recording as Nochexxx, and firing the influence of vintage electro and early bleep techno through an arsenal of barely-working gear to result on a sound that’s a grubby as Wolf Eyes but with the unmistakable slap of late ‘80s Detroit. Plot Defender is Henson’s third …
Primordial moves and stone cold drones from this New York duo of Taketo Shimada and Tres Warren (Sacred Bones Records). Save for a small long-gone edition of CD-Rs, Mirage is the third full-length release by Messages, recorded in 2008 before their first two albums and has remained unreleased until now. This record documents the duo's earliest long-form drone explorations and intonations, most of which were recorded during long sessions in Tres' basement bunker in the East Village. Mixing orbits …
LP version on 180 gram vinyl. Tombeaux, the much-anticipated new album from Paul Metzger, marks our alchemist's third appearance on Nero's Neptune, following critically-acclaimed contributions to labels like Locust and Honest Jon's. Metzger summons the spirits of musical Appalachian forefathers, guitarist Django Reinhardt and classical sitarist Nikhil Banerjee, among others, weaving a peerless, highly individualistic music that sounds unlike anyone but himself. Metzger's playing doesn't imitate …
(ÉCHOS) is not a documentation about a festival, it is not a compilation or a remix album. And yet some of these things and more are infusing through the 15 tracks of the record. But mostly, (ÉCHOS) is the interpretation of a place and moment in sounds, an essay in alpine electroacoustics. It includes contributions by Bear Bones, Lay Low, Jean Bender, Pôm Bouvier B Joaquim Brissaud, Clara De Asís & Laura Vazquez, Golem Mécanique, Homnimal, Piotr Kurek, Stephen O'Malley, Léo Maurel & Julien Desai…
Limited edition of 200 copies on black vinyl. "I visited Egypt for the first time in October 2016, spending a week there, and I went back for a longer period the next February. Both times I stayed at Sara and Alberto’s place, a couple of friends who have been living in the Maadi district of Cairo for about a year. The first impact with the city and its inhabitants was definitely strong: I had trouble in defining the energy which pervades the streets 24 hours a day and the feeling of perpetual mo…
Doxy present Ennio Morricone's complete soundtrack for the 1961 film Il Federale (The Fascist) on vinyl for the first time. This soundtrack written by a young Morricone for Luciano Salce's Il Federale starring Ugo Tognazzi, is a music jewel containing many elements so typical of his later style that he has developed and matured during his incredible career; this score is important from a historical point of view since it represents Morricone's absolute first film scoring assignment. First time c…
Doxy present Piero Piccioni's complete soundtrack for the 1963 film Il Terrorista on vinyl for the first time. Directed in 1963 by Gianfranco De Bosio and starring Gian Maria Volontè, Anouk Aimée, Tino Carraro, Philippe Leroy, the great Piero Piccioni created "easy listening" music such as foxtrots, band music, waltzes as opposed to serious music for large orchestras that dramatically describes all the historical and political aspect of the story. Complete version for the first time on vinyl. Ed…
"Il grande gioco", the only LP released by the Rome-based band Albero Motore in 1974, already issued by AMS Records on CD papersleeve format, is now also reissued on vinyl with a cover that faithfully reproduces the original one, including the inner LP envelope with photos, credits and lyrics. The group's brief career lasted about three years, from 1972 to the breakup that occurred shortly after the release of the 7-inch "Messico Lontano / Mandrake". "Il grande gioco" was published in the same y…
Double QR-Code LP (an empty sleeve with no discs), edition of 100 copies. The recording to listen online is a 5-hour composition for computer voice, first presented in Paris on March 25, 2000: a deepening of the idea of a dematerialized disc, following Kiss Music.Frédéric Acquaviva, born in 1967, has been since 1990 a sound artist and experimental music composer, creating chronopolyphonic installations and CDs and playing in art galleries, in museums or in underground venues.Staying away from tr…
Recorded at Ftarri, Tokyo, 28. Limited edition, 200 copies. Lovingly recorded on acoustic guitar, his improvisations have the spiky quality associated with the elder statesman of the freely improvised guitar, as well as some John Fahey touches here and there, but Masubuchi's lines sound as though coated in oil, possessing a slipperiness and liquidity that peeks back at Japanese traditions
Mornings at the Case family breakfast table in summer-to-fall 2013 passed to the score of Justin Walter’s Lullabies & Nightmares, a solo record debuted for Chicago’s stalwart Kranky label that spring. A willfully reflective amendment to the AM ritual, Brian Case found a stirring soulful resonance in Walter’s cooing geographies. After decades under the alt rock context with 90 Day Men, The Ponys and Disappears, in recent years, Case’s interests have turned to more textural and alinear musical end…
If you know Glands of External Secretion, you now also know that they have a new release out in Coherent States to which you may be interested in listening. If you are unfamiliar with them, there are quite a few things to be said, beginning when Seymour Glass, inspired by J.D. Salinger's short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish, starts publishing the legendary Bananafish Zine in 1987, which for eighteen issues and up until 2004, constitutes a huge and ambitious attempt of presenting underground …
Phil Julian lives in London, and has been active in the experimental music underground since the late 90's under the alias Cheapmachines and lately under his own name. He is dedicated to analogue electronics as well as computer noise. Contact microphones, feedback and modular synthesizers are basic tools to what, after much work, could lead to the perfection of 2014's Trace LP or the excellent Quiet Trade tape. A wide spectrum from harsh noise to academic minimalism. An "anything can turn into a…
