An Insatiable High is the third studio album by Japanese jazz-fusion guitarist Masayoshi Takanaka, originally released by Kitty Records in 1977 and reissued in 2024. The album blends polished jazz fusion, disco, city pop, and sun-soaked West Coast funk, showcasing Takanaka’s fluid guitar work and effortlessly breezy production.

This edition was released on August 23, 2024, pressed on clear yellow vinyl as a Japanese import. It features contributions from major Los Angeles session musicians of the era, including Harvey Mason, Chuck Rainey, and Lee Ritenour, alongside performances connected to Tower of Power and vocalist Jim Gilstrap.

Highlights include the disco-fueled opener “Sexy Dance,” the enduring beachside groove “Malibu,” and the intricate, high-energy title track. With its warm melodies, tight rhythms, and radiant guitar lines, An Insatiable High remains one of Takanaka’s defining records—an ideal entry point into Japanese fusion and late-’70s city pop.
