East Side Supply is the meeting of two producers and multi-instrumentalists, Chris Lujan from the Bay Area (Life of Grime) and Alexander Korostinsky from Reno (Whatitdo Archive Group). Both work on tape with analogue gear, and the two songs of this debut 45 were written and recorded at Korostinsky's Archive Group Studios.
The idea behind it is the delicatessen and bodega culture of New York's Upper East Side in the 1980s, heard through classic East Coast hip-hop and through the Italian library records of Sandro Brugnolini and Rino De Filippi. Delicatessen opens on a heavy drum break with electric bongos, then a Casiotone and a 12-string electric guitar carry a crooked melody over thick bass and fuzz guitar, up to a gritty flute solo. The Bodega brings in guitar, harpsichord and flute over Korostinsky's bass line, with Axelrod-style orchestral hits and fuzzy drums at the end.
7" single on New Tape, the imprint of Sonor Music Editions.
